We offer Free Shipping (USPS Ground Advantage, Priority Mail and UPS Standard Ground) which ever may be cheaper for all of our listings. I am consdidering of offering Expedited Shipping (UPS 2-Day delivery) options for an addtional cost. My question is, if a buyer uses and pays for the additional shipping and decides to return it do I have to reimburse them the full amount including the extra shipping. Currently with us offering free shipping and someone returns an item they get a full refund.
I do also know that if a customer returns an item Ebay automatically refunds the customer even before we receive the item, which I don't like in case in comes in damages, etc.
I am trying to figure the best route to take on this.

·4 months agoDepends on the reason customer used when they opened "return request". If reason is "not as described, defective, counterfeit, missing parts" (you will be forced to refund (purchase price + shipping BOTH ways).
If reason is "does not fit or changed mind" you only have to refund (purchase price). Customer pays shipping BOTH ways.

·4 months agoI refuse to offer expedited shipping. A couple reasons why are the delivery dates are no longer guaranteed like they once were and buyers would take that out on me. Also if a buyer decided to file a bogus INAD case (which I get a lot of) I am on the hook for it. I just had someone yesterday request expedited shipping for a $10-$12 item and I refused. It might be worth it on a much more expensive item but I don't really see much on a positive side for me as a seller.
If you sell more expensive items with an extremely low return rate I might consider it, especially if it were from a repeat customers I was familiar with requesting it.

·4 months agoIf you agree to the return, and send the buyer a prepaid return label, the item has to be returned before the refund is given. If instead, you allow eBay to handle it, and mostly they side with the buyer, you will not receive the item back and will be forced to refund in full. So it is best practice to handle the return yourself.
As for the wide variety of shipping you are allowing for - If I remember correctly, the buyer, when issued a prepaid return label, gets the identical one that they paid for, so if they choose 2 day, they get a 2 day back.
I do not, nor would I, offer 2 Day delivery - I do not sell anything that will expire if not shipped immediately, nor do I sell medical devices.
I would use, and do use, the cheapest shipping method, and stick with that, no need for Priority or 2 Day.
