Just had a sale, 1 hour later they requested a refund with reason being accidental purchase. I want to refund since its not shipped. Is any of my $ taken from my bank or just there payment upon refunding?

·1 year agoThe sad part is ebay is earning interest on your money the whole time that it is on hold.
You have to be the one to suffer the loss when ebay could just reverse the whole charge to the buyer.

·1 year agoI know you keep saying this, but that isn't the motivation for holding funds on new seller or those returning after 90+ days away. It is a Security thing. As I've explained before, Ebay had this policy long before they started earning interest on money held as that was a recent change for Ebay.

·1 year agoIt's best to wait until 'processing funds' go into 'available funds'
Refunds are taken out of 'available funds' in 5 seconds.
If you have no 'available funds' and if you do a refund you get 'negative available funds'.
I have had 'negative funds' for a few days(2)...usually after 3 days if no available funds are coming in processing funds usually eBay will take money out of your banking account.
Refund or cancel you still should wait until processing funds enter into available funds.
Amazing others couldn't answer your simple question.

·1 year agoNo, absolutely not. That would likely cause the Op to get a defect for late shipment. This seller is a seller that is returning after 90+ days away from selling, so likely has their funds on hold.

·1 year agoI repeat if no 'available funds' and 'processing funds' do not go into 'available funds' after 3 days it the refund come from the seller's banking account.
Seller wasn't talking about a defect or if hasn't sold in a while...seller wanted to know where money comes from and when.
And I see no talk in post about a late shipment...it's a refund.

·1 year agoBut if the refund isn't issued and the item isn't shipped within the seller's handling time, the seller gets a late shipping ding.
There's no reason to postpone accepting the cancellation request.

·1 year agoI understand what info the OP is looking for. Part of your post said "It's best to wait until 'processing funds' go into 'available funds' ". This seller likely doesn't have that option since their funds are likely on hold.
You weren't taking into consideration that it is likely the OP's funds are on hold, which makes a difference. And waiting to refund can cause a Dinged for a late shipment, depending on the seller's handling time. Whether you want to recognize that or not. It can happen.

·1 year agoHaving no money in seller bank account and getting over draw fees is probably more important than a 'ding'.
I get one business day in an overdraft...which are expensive.
It is Saturday and seller has a chance to make sure money is in bank account to cover the refund.
Seller does not sell a lot which you stated...I think overdraft fees are more important than a 'ding'.

·1 year agoBank fees is an important thing to consider. Not one that has been brought up on the thread, but an important one.
I've recommended that the OP contact Ebay and see if they can get the funds released so they can easily just refund the buyer. That is likely the easiest way to fix the issue. Hopefully Ebay will work with the seller as they can see that the buyer has asked for the refund.

·1 year agoSometimes, don't get mad but sometimes I can't understand your questions to me instead of the question from a post.
If a seller has no money to cover debit-banking account for the refund...thus getting overdrawn...seller can deposit money into the account to cover refund like in a quick timeframe.
Not everyone who sells here is a millionaire...
Of course, this is a seller who doesn't sell every month...thus the outcome and the question...read just the question...
When a buyer makes a MISTAKE...why make the buyer wait?
Because it's not the seller's mistake.
Instead of us helping the person on the post here...key word...'help'...you are questioning me.

·1 year agoThe OP hasn't sold in awhile, so their funds might be held for 30 days.
There's no reason to make the buyer wait until the hold is released to refund the buyer.
You say wait until the funds are avaliable to refund.
If they hold the funds for 30 days, it'll be awhile before the funds are avaliable to use to refund.

IF the seller can make a deposit with real money in his/her banking account to cover the refund before a not enough funds in the account to cover the refund than I say it is OK to wait to refund for a day or two days.
A day or two can make a difference from cash overdrawn on an account.

·1 year agoContact Ebay as I suggested in a post a few back. I would suggest via Facebook for the best results.

·1 year agoWhen you signed up for managed payments, you gave ebay your banking information. The bank account is the place where your payouts go and from which refunds will come when you don't have enough available funds to cover the refund.
Since your funds aren't "available" yet, your buyer's refund will be withdrawn from your bank account.

·1 year agoYou have to add a credit/debit card to cover the refund or they'll take it from your checking account.
While the buyers payment is on hold because you're a new seller, you can't do nothing with them.

Reading thru the thread and someone finally mentioned it.
As a regular seller, I have a credit card attached to my account for when a refund needs processing and I just had a payout, thus no funds available. Could also be for my Store fees or a shipping label, etc. If I come up a nickel short for anything they put it on the card.
Makes it easy peasy for keeping things rolling.
Just a suggestion, I do realize you are not a avid seller.

OP1 year agoA better question for me to ask is do I wait till their payment is in my account to refund?, I currently have no $ in that account until their payment goes through

·1 year agoYou are in a little bit of a pickle here. It is likely your funds are on hold per the policies below.
Ebay has had a rule for many years that pertains to New Seller and sellers that have been away from selling for 90+ days. The following is the policy that outlines why you money is likely on hold.

I recommend that you contact Ebay and see if you can work something out so that they release the funds for the refunding process right away.
On each Ebay page there is a link to contact Customer Service at the top of the page and again at the bottom of the page.
I would suggest that you contact Ebay for Business on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for the better trained CSRs.

Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message. It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.

Sometimes you have the Chat option available and other times it won't me. If it is important to you to use one of those options, just try back later.

·1 year agoCancel now and the refund will come from your bank. When the funds are released, you'll get them back into your bank account.

·1 year agoThe buyers gets all their money back but eBay keeps the .40 transaction fee that will be more than what their refund is, therefore eBay will want that transaction fee before they refund.
This means the payment comes from the method you attached for seller fees that aren't taken from the payout.

OP1 year agoI don't understand your answer, all I want to know is since their $ dosent get to me instantly, who's $ are they getting? Their original payment or my money from bank? Isn't their money pending for 2 days til payout?

·1 year agoIf I am not mistaken...the 'refund' (when issued) is booked in "real-time".
The buyer's payment is in the 'processing' stage (delayed).
That leaves a period of time (1-2 days) before you (seller) have those funds available.

·1 year agoYou need to do the cancellation and refund right away. You do not have the luxury to wait. I understand your concern over how the money flows and you may end up covering the money for the refund for a couple of days until your funds are released from your Ebay Managed Payments account, but YOU still need to process the cancellation and refund right away.

·1 year agoWhat does speed have to do with it? I mean certainly a seller doesn't want to drag their feet once a buyer requests this, but I'm not sure I understand what your concern is.

·1 year agoYou don't simply refund. You do the Cancellation process with the reason, the buyer requested it.

·1 year agoThere is no good reason for you to wait. Whether or not the funds are transferred to your bank should never be a deciding factor in how you service your buyers on the site.
