Refund for INR
Summary: In the discussion, grann-4629 queries about the process of filing an Item Not Received (INR) claim on eBay and who pays for the refund. dhbookds responds that the seller is responsible for the refund and can file a claim with the shipping company to potentially get reimbursed. Participants clarify that refunds typically come from the seller's money unless specific protections apply. There is a correction that the INR claim can be filed one day past the last estimated delivery date, contrary to the initial 30-day assumption. There's also advice on insuring shipments to mitigate losses, especially for high-value items.
If I order something and it is shipped with tracking and it doesn't show up within the time limit set by eBay (30 days after last estimated shipping date), I can file an INR claim for a refund. Where does the money come from for my refund?
This hasn't happened to me ... I'm just curious.

·1 week ago · EditedYes, you roll the dice on whether to buy insurance.
They've only lost a few packages in 12 years, and I ship mostly USPS priority mail which includes $100 ins. and I've been paid back...eventually, and simply replaced the items and sent again. Customer happy. Still hi dollar items I insure. Can't afford to take the chance. I have had packages that were delivered and then the buyer said it wasn't. In one case Ebay paid the buyer.

·1 week ago@grann-4629 Depends on the transaction. For most here in the USA, the refund comes from the Seller's money. There are specific situations where the seller is protected, but the most common situation is the Seller pays.

·1 week agoBy the way; it is NOT '30 days' for a time limit' for an INR.
It is 1 day past the last estimated delivery date.
So if you buy Aug 1 and it shows 'delivery estimated Aug 5 to Aug 12"....on the 13th, you can open an INR.
And as others stated, it comes from the Seller (either forced or whatever) as it is 100% the Sellers Responsibility to get items purchased to the customer.

·1 week agoSeller would be forced to give customer a full refund. Seller is then supposed to file a "lost package" claim with USPS.

OP1 week agoThanks. I was thinking the refunds come from eBay. So, if the seller is unable to recover a loss from the shipper is s/he SOL?

·1 week ago@grann-4629 eBay will refund a seller if the package is ultimately delivered and they meet other qualifications. If there is no delivery scan, the seller can easily file to be refunded by the carrier. I have never had an issue with USPS or FedEx when it comes to insurance through them. UPS has never lost a package or damaged anything, so I've not need to go through their process.
