Received message from Ebay about verification, what do I do?
Summary: mozartbach1971 received a suspicious message purportedly from eBay about a verification process, lacking links or clear instructions. Many participants, including inhawaii and mam98031, shared similar experiences, noting that it's a known issue, and advised considering such messages as scams unless verified. mam98031 provided steps for reporting these messages as fraudulent. Despite eBay's attempts to tackle the issue, such messages continue to be a concern, prompting frustration among users. mozartbach1971 confirmed no personal information was shared, recognizing the difficulty of distinguishing these scams from legitimate requests.
I just received a message in my private message box from Ebay saying I need to do some kind of verification. However, I don't see any links or specific instructions. Has anyone received this message?

·Sep 11, 2026 at 11:55 AMHello Everyone
Got this also, and what makes matters worst is that Ebay send me an email, saying I had a message, so it was as if Ebay sent it because first Ebay email it to me to go open. You would think Ebay would see trouble before notifying me saying "hey you have message, go look and open it up read it". Ebay assisted them by not only allow then do this on there site, BUT emailing me saying, Hey you have message, go look. I wasn't even on my Ebay account, I was opening Emails.

·1 month agoPerhaps everyone receiving these messages should try and contact ebay.
Maybe if they get inundated with messages/complaints themselves they might try harder to come up with a fix that actually fixes it.

·1 month ago@mozartbach1971 You were very smart to come here and ask. This has been a real problem for a couple weeks now. Ebay initially took down the ability to even use DMs for about a week while trying to figure out how to stop these SCAM messages. But they haven't figured it out yet, so they gave us DMs back but a few of these types of emails still got through. So now, while the DMs are available to us all, we can't send links to anything, not even an ebay policy page for now until they get a firm grip on this issue.
I hope you did not disclose any of your information to whomever sent you the DM. And if you still have it, go to the that message in your DMs. Click on the message. Once you are in the message, you will see THREE Vertical dots on the upper right side. Click on that. From the menu select FLAG and send this off to Ebay reporting it as a scam attempt.
Let us know if you have further issues or if we can be of any assistance.

Would be nice if they explained that............. @devon@ebay Whether they still want us to "report them" or just understand we have to live with the situation as you explain it.

·Sep 11, 2026 at 9:42 PMDevon did say to still report anything that we see wrong on the DMs. They are working on the issue, it is just going to take a bit more time than any of us would like.
I am grateful that Ebay is doing what they can to protect us all against these scam emails. I'm glad they gave us DMs back and I don't like not being able to put in any kind of link, but I understand and respect why they are doing it.
So if anyone has examples in the DM, go to the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the DM and click on FLAG.

OPSep 12, 2026 at 4:09 AMI did not give them any personal information. I think something like this is hard to detect because in the past I've received legitimate messages from other sites where I was asked to give a phone number or password for a verification.

·Sep 12, 2026 at 6:07 PMThey are NEVER legit if they come to you via DMs in the Community. 100% NO!

·1 month agoThey had a pinned warning about these for awhile stating they were trying to solve this issue, but I see the post is gone now, but seems the problem wasn't fixed. nice
Just another reason to dislike the new board.

·1 month agoYes, many of us have received those messages.
Most of us were smart enough to ignore/delete them.
