rating as a seller
I have 2300+ feedbacks with one negative which was about a year ago. My rating has been 99.3 since that time. Now it has dropped to 99.2! I don't understand, when I feel my rating should be 99.9. I understand only 12(?) months count (WHY?) but am going downhill. It doesn't help my selling because I had one lousy negative and the buyer never contacted me. Overall, I am satisfied with my selling but this just seems wrong. Comments?

That was from one of your feedbacks. You still have a high score and at least to this buyer seeing that feedback would dispell any concern of one negative. I'd trust you in a heartbeat....................

·8 months agoI guess that you are concerned that that negative feedback is responsible for your poor sales.
It probably is not affecting your sales.
Your recent sales are based on a lower number of listings, auction listings for low demand books, and nothing being offered which is in high demand.
Your sales in the past 90 days are items which used to do well on Ebay and no longer do. In earlier times the Roseville would have brought substantially more in an Ebay auction and should probably be listed as Buy It Now with a higher price.
I hesitate to sell a seller who has sold over 1k items that it is time to start over in learning what will sell on Ebay, how to offer it, and what is a waste of time, but you need more items, and they need to reflect buyer demand.
I sell low demand items, and I have 5k+ items listed, because it is hard to stay interested in Ebay selling, when you do not have enough sales to keep you motivated.
I still own some Roseville, and would probably have to sell at a loss if I offered it on Ebay today. But I won't offer it because it is not worth the hassle and risks associated with packing and shipping at today's prices.

I dont know what eBays policy is on it, but have in the past been able to have feedback appealed and automatically removed for those circumstances. It makes sense and should be apart of their policy. Why should a seller have to find out about an issue through bad feedback from a buyer who has never contacted them via messages or opened a return?

·8 months agoeBay has never, to my knowledge, required a buyer to contact a seller before leaving negative feedback, nor removed feedback for that reason. If the feedback violated any of eBay’s policies, it can be removed, but that is not a policy.

You have much FB praising your excellent packing.
I would be happy to buy from you.
This will roll off soon.

·8 months agoIt's based off yearly percentage. Don't worry about it though. Your negative feedback will not detour buyers from buying your items. The buyer should've contacted you to resolve the issue cause there should've been insurance to cover the damage. That's on them for not contacting you which other buyers will either not worry about it or not look at the rating at all.

·8 months agoThe solution is sell more every month...which will increase your rating.
Not selling a lot every month decreases the rating in a calendar year.
Try adding cheapo items to sell.

·8 months agoHello!
First I will recommend, if a buyer leaves you a negative feedback without ever contacting you about an issue, appeal it right away through ebay. State that the buyer never messaged you about the issue nor did they attempt to open a return and send it back. That process is all done with AI now, and a lot of the time will get automatically removed.
As for your feedback score, it is based off the last 12 months, more specifically the last 365 days. Lets say you had 10 positive feedbacks given to you last year on 1/26/2025. Today, those feedback would have fallen off and effectively would now change the calculation of your current feedback score. So, if you received 1000 positives and 1 negative in the last 12 months, and 10 positives fall off, its not calculating the percentage of 990 positives and 1 negative. This would indeed make your score seem as though its dropping.

If buyers don't contact seller or initiate a return before leaving neg FB, the eBay will remove the FB?
What are the grounds for your appeal of the FB?
I didn't know buyers were bound to any particular actions before leaving a neg.
I'd like to know for the future.

·8 months agoThis is how a 12 month ROLLING count works.
Transactions previous to the last 12 months stop being counted. That includes both positive AND negative feedback.
I would not worry about one bad mark, it's not the end of the world. As long as you respond to negatives professionally there's really no problem. Some buyers are just bat**** crazy and it's not your fault.
A successful business owner will spend more time worrying about things they can control, and less time worrying about things they can't. Which will you be?

·8 months agoNot sure what the ?? in back of "12 months" means (if it is to confirm- YES, it's 12 months)
Not sure what the ?? at back of "WHY" means, but to confirm an answer: BECAUSE. This is how the site operates.
Regarding why you number went down, it's simple.
Rolling 12 months
For example:
You had 1 neg and 500 positives as of 1/19/25 to give you the 99.3
The first positive 12 months ago fell off on 1/20/25.
So as of 1/21/25 you would have 1 neg and 499 positives, giving you the now 99.2
The percentage will change
(my numbers for example only and not mathematically correct but just used for example for anyone wanting to stretch their mathematical brain.

·8 months agoThe reason the % dropped is because you're loosing more feedback then you're receiving for the last 12 months.
mamacassidy
·8 months agoAs mentioned above, the percentage is based on 12 months of feedback. After 12 months, feedback falls off.
But remember, BOTH positive and negative feedback fall off. So the reason you went down from 99.3 to 99.2 is because some of the positives that were 12 months old fell off, which lowered the percentage.

·8 months agoAlmost all of your listings are for books. One feedback about a fragile glass item breaking in transit isn't going to deter most people from buying books. You're putting way too much stock in that 1 neg.

·8 months agoIt's just how the math is working out right now. Since it is a rolling 12 months, you must have had a higher number of positives a year ago than you are getting now, so more just rolled off than have gone on to replace them. That changed the percentage slightly, but your negative will also roll off after the 1 year mark, so don't despair, plus ebay is giving automatic feedbacks now, which should help you too.

·8 months agoYour feedback percentage is based on the last 12 months. Once a year has elapsed, the negative will drop off and you'll be back up to 100%.
