Quick View In Stores Allows Add To Cart Without Viewing Listing Page
Has anyone else noticed the Quick View option in Stores?
Not sure if this is new or if it's been around for a bit and I just now noticed, but now when you hover over images in a seller's store it shows a "Quick View" button.
Clicking the button opens a pop up where you can scroll through the images and add to cart without ever looking at the full listing page.
Note - screenshots taken from desktop view in Chrome incognito browser (not sure if this is a test or if it displays the same on all browsers).
If this is the direction eBay is going, those extra 12 image slots may become even more important. 😮

OP3 years agoAs many of us predicted when this rolled out to stores....they are now testing Quick View in search results as well. 👀

·3 years agoAt the very least if there is any text in the Condition Box that text should be added to the quick view page on any items listed as used so the buyer has a better sense of condition before adding to their cart.

OP3 years agoJust a quick update - as of 3/3/23 I am no longer seeing Quick View in Stores.
Not sure if they turned it off because it was a limited time test, they are responding to buyer and seller feedback, or due to technical issues it may have caused or been related to.

I've checked in Chrome and Firefox both incognito and don't see it any more in either one.
Anyone else still seeing Quick View in Stores?

OP3 years agoAnd good news gone....Quick View is back on Store pages.

OP3 years agoJust for fun I figured I'd check some of the other sites to see if they have Quick View in their stores/shops as well. I'm currently seeing it on eBayUK but not Canada or Australia.
Anyone else seeing it on other eBay sites?

OP3 years agoNow I'm seeing Quick View (with the button functionality) on eBay Australia too. Still not seeing it on Canada yet.

·3 years agoI'm seeing it but it has screwed up my ebay store, now it either redirects to different item than clicked on, or it won't take you to page. This is costing us sales and time to try to get it corrected. Talked to customer service last night, they assured us that IT would look into it. No changes this morning!!!!

·3 years agoUgh..........that possibly would work OK for new stuff...........but for used....when condition flaws are VITAL information.....it sure could be considered a misrepresentation by a buyer......
@devon@ebay change or test? could you inform "the team" of the problem with no condition information about used items?

·3 years agoHere's something that as a buyer I dislike about the functionality.
When you're on a seller's store page and click on a listing you get the pop up whether you click on the gallery image or the listing title.
On other websites, clicking the gallery image gives you the quick view, but clicking the item title takes you to full details.
If eBay keeps this around I'd really like to see that type of modification.
I'll also note that beyond the first few images when you right arrow to see more images, the thumbnails aren't loading. I keep getting a blue arrow load circle. If you mouse over the thumbnails or click on them the larger image shows, but the thumbnails aren't loading. Since this is a new rollout I don't know if that's a temporary server issue or a larger bug with the quick view. Not enough time to test it yet.

·3 years agoMy first move, when I encounter a popup like that, would be to look for more information, if I was still interested after seeing the larger picture. I would probably trying clicking on the picture again, which works on a lot of websites. That doesn't work in this case, but the next thing I noticed was a white button that says "More details" (underneath the prominent blue Add to Cart button). If you click on that, it takes you to the listing page.
I have trained myself to look closer anytime there are two buttons like that. One of them is always more prominent (because the website wants me to click that one). However, if the website wants me to click the obvious button, then I probably don't want to click it.
A good example: any popup that asks for permission (for anything) always find and click "No", or find the X to close the popup (sometimes takes a few seconds before it shows up). If the popup won't go away when you do that, then close the browser and don't go back there, because it's a phishing site. It's not a legitimate site.

OP3 years ago@wastingtime101 that's interesting. When I was testing, it only showed the Quick View button when hovering over the gallery image and I had to specifically click on the button itself to pop up the quick view - clicking anywhere else on the image or clicking the title took me to the regular listing page.
Maybe they are A/B testing that part of the functionality. I definitely wouldn't like what you described as a buyer either.
I'm seeing the same thing you are with the thumbnails too.

·3 years agoI don't see any Quick View button when I mouse over a listing, just the pointing hand that shows it is clickable. Clicking either on the picture or on the title opens the Quick View popup.

OP3 years ago@lacemaker3 I really hope they don't stick with that functionality. 😞
Here's how it's currently working for me (I should add that Quick View isn't showing at all for me in Chrome now but is showing in FireFox - but this is also how it was working for me yesterday in Chrome):
Hovering over the image causes a button to show and I only get the pop up after clicking that button.
If they are going to move forward with this, I hope they at least go with this version of the functionality. Much better in my opinion to make it explicitly the buyers choice to view it that way rather than having Quick View forced as the default when clicking on the image or title.

·3 years agoI don't see a quick view button.
I'm looking at a storefront when this happens. When I scroll down to see all and am taken to the search page quick view isn't active. They're probably doing a test on storefronts before expanding.
On storefront there's no quick view button for me. You click anywhere be it image or title and you get the quick view popup.
There's obviously a view full details button on the pop up (although I think it should be prominently blue like the add to cart button), but the point is buyers are forced in to the pop-up and don't have the option to go to the full listing page without multiple clicks.
I'd like to see the choice between quick view and full view from that storefront (or search if/when this expands) - like you described a button to click for quick view or click outside the button for full view.
There are times where I do actively use quick view on other sites to check out larger photos without clicking into the listing just to gauge my interest level, or because it's an item I've purchased before and just need to restock, but there are more times where I want to go directly to the full listing and read all details.

OP3 years ago@wastingtime101- yep, only seeing it in storefronts at this time.
I'm now seeing the functionality you described in Chrome - definitely do not like it.
Still seeing the button functionality like in my screenshot above in FireFox.

·3 years agoI agree, the presence/absence of the Quick view button is browser dependent.
I am seeing the Quick View button (though mine is black, not white like yours) in Edge, but not in FireFox.
dhbookds
·3 years agonot in FireFox.
I'm seeing it in Firefox........(black)
valueaddedresource
OP3 years ago@lacemaker3 mine was black in Chrome yesterday, white in FireFox today. Guessing even that is probably browser dependent and/or being split tested.
my-cottage-books-and-antiques
·3 years ago@valueaddedresource I am not seeing it in chrome, but am seeing the black button in Edge (and photos are loading properly). To get the pop up in Edge, I must click the black button.
So, yes, they are almost certainly testing various iterations, and, my guess is we will soon be hearing "Good news, Sellers! Tests have shown increased conversions when buyers are shown a Quick View pop up in your store...."
My only advice: Don't hesitate to use all 24 photos.
I would also advise using video whenever helpful, however, my version of the test (using Edge) does NOT include the video in the Quick View gallery.
Is anyone seeing video in the Quick View pop up, or just photos?

·3 years agoI just noticed and posted about it a couple minutes ago.
Glad it's not sellers having to go through more steps.

·3 years agoHow many people read this then thought, "I should start creating an image of my description and use it in the photo gallery" - raise your hands.
Yeah, I know the photo policy is no text in images, but that was my first thought.
Now that I've expressed how much I hate this, I will say that eBay already has a similar option for items on your saved feed and it's been that way for many years. Not sure how many people use the feed though. The app provides only snippets without clicking to read more and that's created a lot of problems. Can't tell you how often I'm helping a buyer with app navigation that is disappointed they didn't see full specifics/description before purchase.
It's very common among other retailers to offer a quick view, so it's hardly a new thing. But the difference is those are major retailers that made the decision for their own products and those retailers don't have to deal with preowned, new-other, etc. Hell, even for new products it hides major info like size, material, and so so much more.
Does anybody know if other marketplaces (poshmark, etc) offer this kind of quick view sans description?
valueaddedresource
OP3 years ago@wastingtime101 agree with everything you've said here!
I personally don't like it, but like you said it's not an uncommon design choice for other retailers so it's not completely out in left field either.
Definitely agree there's a huge difference between new in box mass produced consumer goods vs used or one of a kind where the description can be so much more important.
Also wonder what's the point of all of those items specifics if like you said, they won't even be shown in this type of view?
I know Etsy is testing a similar option to "add to basket" directly from the search results page without clicking through to the listing and sellers for the most part are not thrilled about it. Not sure what buyers think - Etsy says in their testing it has increased conversions but didn't give a lot of details nor did they say if it also increased returns.
And yeah, I think there will be many people trying to think of ways to get creative with those pictures if this becomes the norm.
wastingtime101
·3 years agoThere's the rub.
valueaddedresource
OP3 years ago@wastingtime101 exactly!
And as with anything that is just a test, my mind immediately went to what happens if/when they expand it?
So far it appears to be limited to viewing items within a Store but eBay could also potentially decide to do like Etsy is doing and make it part of the search and browsing experience for all listings at some point.
valueaddedresource
OP3 years agoAlso checked out a variety of categories and am seeing it for every Store I've checked.
Here's what it looks like if there are variations - it provides a drop down so you can select the color (or whatever).
Could be one of those pricey features eBay offers. Could be an Anchor store feature maybe?
valueaddedresource
OP3 years ago@ebooksdiva I checked out a variety of stores from large brand direct shops to smaller sellers with a couple hundred items to thousands - it was showing on all of them and while there's no way to know for sure, I believe it's likely they were not all Anchor stores.
Things like that make you say hmmm 🤔
I’m still leaning towards some sort of pricey feature. Although I haven’t come across it while listing.
@valueaddedresource
Are you on the app?
I just realized I responded to myself 🙄
valueaddedresource
OP3 years ago@ebooksdiva those screenshots were from desktop in an incognito Chrome window, not logged in.
valueaddedresource
OP3 years agoAlso just to add to this - not seeing it in FireFox private window, not logged in, so I'm guessing it may be a test.
Ok I was wondering. I think it’s ebay tinkering with things again.

·3 years agoFrom what I can see, it is available on your listings, so ... apparently not a paid-for add-on feature ...
It works as you would expect, too:
Wonder why it says shipping not specified? I ship Media Mail.
No I guess it isn’t a feature you pay for. I don’t even touch those.
wastingtime101
·3 years agoBecause lacemaker is in Canada.

·3 years agoActually, no. It was because I had a shipping location of Germany, left over from checking out something from a previous post.
