Questions for eBay's Money Back Guarantee Policy
For some insight, all the items in my eBay store are parts for cars and about 98% of these parts are new.
I understand that eBay's Money Back Guarantee policy applies when, 1.) The buyer doesn't receive an item, and 2.) The item received by the buyer does not match the listing (i.e., seller sent the wrong item, or the item arrives broken, damaged, or faulty.)
My questions concern reason 3.) The seller does not fulfill their return policy as stated in the listing. When I click the link for this reason, the policy proceeds to state that, "If the listing states that the seller offers returns, the buyer may return the item for any reason, including if they change their mind about the item ("remorse" returns). When a buyer requests a return within the seller's return policy, the seller must allow them to return the item for a full refund. The seller may exclude original shipping costs from the refund."
Our return policy state, "We accept returns within 30 days of purchase for damaged or defective parts only. The part must be in its original, new condition and in the original packaging. Buyer is responsible for return shipping costs."
eBay's return policy seems contradicting and each time a customer returns an item "they do not like", or "changed their mind", eBay automatically approves this, despite what our policy states. What I have gathered is that eBay tends to side with the buyer versus the seller.
Another concern, if a customer installs a part and damages the part in the process of uninstalling it, we lose money, even if we do give a partial refund instead of a full one.
Is there anything we can do to avoid these nonsensical returns? Again, I understand if the part ended up damaged, wrong item received, or customer never receives it. Thank you in advance, any help is appreciated.

·4 months agoNo, only thing you can do is "raise your prices" to allow for possible returns "at your expense".

·4 months agoI have some bad news. If your parts are new and over $10 you are offering "free returns" and paying half of the return shipping costs. What you write in your listing regarding returns is irrelevent. This was a major policy change for sellers in the auto parts categories and the system will enforce it.

·4 months agoThat is not your return policy. That is text you have added to your listing, but your official return policy (which follows eBay's requirements) is listed just under the price on each of your listings.
For the first one I looked at, this is the actual return policy:
Buyers can return those items for any reason and you pay the return shipping. Simply stating something in your description does not override the official policies on eBay.
