questionable buyer who does not pay
This has happened to me three times. I list an item, this person buys, asks me to text them, then does not pay for the item. I do not text, because I think it is some kind of a scam. Can I set up a new ebay account with new password? I am not sure what I can do.

If you are asked to text do not respond.
And Block.
Because new sellers are targets, don't bother with another account.
There may have been three scammers trying to buy.
Buyers have 96 hours to pay.
YOu can set your Seller Preferences to automatically cancel any Unpaid sale after 96 hours (to the second).
And do some buying to build feedback.
Do you have your Managed Payments account set up yet?
EBay cannot transfer money to your checking account if they don't have your SSN and bank info.

ETA: As a newbie, you may get multiple scammers who want to text you. Each time, block each ID.
I doubt anyone would scam you over a $9.00 item.
Clearly you are dealing with clueless buyers. List Fixed price immediate payment required.
Add those buyers to your blocked buyer list
Cancel unpaid transactions after 4 days citing" buyer didn't pay" to recover selling fees and give the non paying buyer an unpaid item strike. Doing so will help other sellers as well who have their buyer requirements set to block nonpaying buyer that have 2 unpaid item strikes in 12 months.

The "text me" scammers are not interested in the item per se. They want the "gift cards" that they will tell the buyer to include in the parcel as a gift for their nephew (grandmother, sister) for their birthday (first communion, wedding) etc. They will say they will pay you an additional $50 for your trouble. ...LOL...they don't PAY squat...they send a phony you have been paid notice instead, but they will often get the 'codes' off the cards first.
Granted there as some that target high priced items from 'newbies', but these scammers have lowered their standards.

·2 years agoNo, you don't need to set up a new account, just ditch the auctions and best offer.
List as a fixed price with immediate payment required and it'll get rid of most of the scammers.

Unfortunately, as a new seller, you are likely to be a 'scam magnet' for quite some time. Be sure to read here often, since the "text me" scammers are not the only ones out there. We have the "change of address" scammers as well. But these are the easiest to avoid.
You may wish, at least for a while to use the fixed price format with immediate payment required. This will help with your immediate problem, but does prevent multiple sales for combined shipping.
One of the latest is for a "buyer" to contact you saying that they are having trouble paying. They go on to say that the called eBay about this and provide a handy link for you to use to clear up the problem. NEVER DO THIS....next thing you know your account will be hacked since you "signed in" on a fake form.
It gets better, so don't be totally discouraged. Good luck!

·2 years agoAsking for a text is an very real indication of a scam..........ignore........do not respond..........report buyer. You can set up a new account, but new sellers are a target, so you would probably also get this kind of message on a new one.
Report the buyer on the message page, there are tabs just above the messages
