Question about Original Shipping
I have a buyer that wants to return a sweater because he changed his mind and doesn’t like the color. I agreed to accept the return and will issue him a return label. He has already agreed to get a refund for the sweater minus the original shipping fee, but not the return shipping fee that I will be sending through eBay. I read that if you give a partial refund, it can only be for damage of the item, not the return shipping fee which I understand. However, the article doesn’t say anything about the original shipping he paid. Is there a way to do this transaction?

Is the item the Puritan V Neck Mens Long Sleeve Sweater?
You don't have a return policy but I see no issue in accepting a return when a buyer is honest enough to express remorse. (Many buyers see a "no returns" policy and lie and claim NAD (not as described) in order to get to return it.)
ALthough you aren't obligated to accept, you certainly can do so and have the buyer pay return shipping. (If you supply the label through the return request, the price of the label will be deducted from their refund.)
And for that item, you charged separately for the original shipping so you aren't obligated to include that amount in the refund. You can just refund the purchase price. (For items with free shipping, sellers cannot deduct the original shipping charge.)
Once you receive the return, you can relist and resell it. You'll have lost nothing except a bit of time in waiting for the return and the next sale.

·5 months agoHas the buyer opened a return request through eBay, or only messaged you? If they opened a request, the reason they chose in that request (along with your stated return policy, potentially) will determine who pays for the return shipping label and whether you will be able to not refund the outbound shipping cost.

OP5 months agoOriginally we were just messaging each other and we came to an agreement. I couldn’t find a way to send him a return label so he clicked the request for return on his side and said the sweater was a different color than the picture. My description of the sweater was exact and the sweater is as described, but his computer is showing a different color than the pictures I posted. So is there a way to have our agreement honored or am I screwed and loose out on the outbound shipping that he agreed I could keep?

·5 months agoIf the request says that it's not as described, you have two options:
1. Issue a full refund and let the buyer keep the item free
2. Accept the return, supply a return shipping label (through the return request) and when you receive it back, issue a full refund.

·5 months ago@albertabrightalberta is correct, if the official reason used for the return request says “Item Not As Described” (or one of a couple similar reasons that fall under the eBay Money Back Guarantee), you won’t have the option to have him pay for the return shipping or withhold the original shipping. Sorry, but there’s no way to change that at this point.
When you say his computer is showing a different color, though, do you mean it’s a shade off, or is he seeing a completely different color than the shirt he got?
