Promotions
I think it’s sickening the amount of deductions with promotions! Plus eBay fees!!! I promote all in my store! Give a break already! Guess big guns are greedy beyond!! Why should it be any different from the rest of the CEO’s and chane of command! Ready to switch to other venues! Marie Pocono Attic

·3 years agoSome figure out any way they can to make a buck. That's business.
I remember a few years back the state decided to charge a renewal registration "extra fee" if you wanted to keep your current license plates. Yes !!!!!! Extra fee to not get new plates with a new # mailed out when renewing. Not only did the state save on production cost/mailing cost, but also got the extra $$ for doing nothing.

·3 years agoThis is SELLER's choice. If you don't want to pay the extra fees for Promoting your listings, then don't promote your listings. Or choose a fee you are better able to live with if the item sells. If you are using the Advanced Promoted listings, that can cost you even more, so make sure it is worth it for you. For some sellers it is.
"Greed" doesn't enter into this. That is just silly. Ebay is and has always been a for profit company. Sellers are and have always come here to sell stuff to make a profit. Everyone is here to make money.
When you promote your listings, as you know that is a cost of sale. You should be increasing your pricing to cover this additional cost, not taking it out of your profits, unless you had a big profit built in originally.

·3 years agoHere is an interesting article about the average spend on marketing across a variety of industries.

For retailers the are showing 15%.
Seems like it's only eBay sellers that believe that they should never have to spend money on marketing.

Come on. There is no analogy between business spending on marketing and sellers begrudging paying eBay fees to promote.
For one, businesses buy marketing at a known bang for the buck rate, they spend $X and get Y placements. eBay expects sellers to pay for promoted listing fees without any eBay commitment of what sellers are getting for the money spent. You may get more exposure or you may get what you were going to get anyway.

·3 years agoIf you are using Promoted Listings Standard you are only paying a fee if you sell something, that would mean that PL is working for you.
If the cost is too high then you need to reduce the rate you are paying (you can go as low as 2%) or by being more selective on what listings you are promoting.
Or you could simply avoid any Promotion fees by not participating at all.

·3 years agoCan I pick your brain? I do a promotion % across all my listings. If sales are slow, I might increase it, but generally I keep it between 3-5%. I'm not a high volume seller, and I'm selling clothes in an already oversaturated market...I know all of these things 🙂 Do you think it's better to promote the higher priced, more desirable items at a higher promotion % and skip the lower dollar items, or vice-versa?
I can do a sale, too, but that never yields too many sales. I know summer can be slower, as well. Do you think I just sit tight and wait it out?
***I did look at my numbers...and half my items are sold on promotions, so for me, even if there are fees, those promotions work, at least half the time!

·3 years agoIt is like some major cities these days. They try to make up for loss of revenue with higher taxes. As people continue to leave, the taxes get even higher. eBay is no different. As of now, it is a bit of a sinking ship. Its best to diversify your listings around and don't put your eggs in one basket.
