Promoted Listings Question

Discussion interactions are currently paused.

I have been on eBay since 2017 and have sold $1000's in small dollar items as a hobby. This year my sales have dropped of dramatically and I was looking into promoted listing(which I've so far rarely used). Does eBay charge promoted listing fees on shipping/tax or just the Buy It Now price? Thanks in advance.

This Thread should be closed as it is entirely outdated.

Promotion Fee is charged on the entire total Price, Taxes and Shipping.
You will be charged the Fee if it sells within 30 days of anybody clicking on a promoted link. The buyer does not have to click the promoted link, but you will still be charged the fee if somebody else did.
This also means you will be charged the Promotion Fee for 30 days AFTER you ended the promotion. So, even if your listing is no longer promoted, you will be charged the promotion fee for 30 days after the last promoted click. ( I have experience.)

Although your response would apply to listings using promoted listings today, it would not have applied to listings from 2021 when this thread was originated.

Hello @im_here_too, thanks for asking this question and we hope we can clarify how we charge fees for our Promoted Listings Standard campaign type.

A Promoted Listings Standard fee is charged based on the ad rate selected by the seller. An ad rate is the percentage of an item’s final sale price (excluding shipping and taxes), and is only charged when a buyer clicks on the promoted listing and purchases the promoted item within 30 days of that click. The fee is based on the ad rate that was in effect when the promoted listing was last clicked.

Based on the listing's quality, its relevancy to buyer search, its ad rate, and other factors, the Promoted Listings Standard system determines which listings to show and where they are displayed. Here's how the fees work:

You choose an ad rate between 1% - 100% of the item's sale price. The higher the ad rate, the higher the possibility of ad placement, leading to increased visibility
The suggested ad rates that eBay provides are calculated based on a variety of factors such as item attributes, seasonality, past performance, and current competition for each of your listings
You will only be charged when a buyer clicks on one of your ads and then buys that item within 30 days
The ad fee is based on the ad rate you chose
Ad fees are shown in your Payments tab in Seller Hub, or the transactions page in My eBay

The Promoted Listings Standard fee is additional to other eBay listing and selling fees. All fees (including ad fees and ad fee credits for unpaid items, returns, or cancelled transactions) appear in your Payments tab or on your monthly eBay invoice, with Promoted Listings Standard fees appearing in the expenses section of your Payments tab.

This answer is no longer correct, is that right? Now the Promoted Listing Fee does include an additional portion based on shipping and tax.

You are correct. Currently it is on the total amount of the transaction. Item price plus shipping charges and taxes paid by buyer.
