Promoted listings fees- now including HALO items? what is this?
Regarding the ebay announcement about now collecting more fees for promoted items- they said they will now not only collect the fee if it was clicked on and purchased within 30 days but also "now will collect on "halo" listings that are purchased also....... What does this mean? I am thinking that before, if you purchased a promoted listing, and then purchased other items from a sellers store on the same transaction, you were only charged the PL fee on the first item that was promoted and actually brought the buyer in.
Now you will be charged the PL on all items regardless of how they were found- through a promoted listing placement add or not- even if they are just browsing your store and making purchases??!!!)
If this is the correct understanding, what a horrible policy to make for your sellers! Why would anyone ever promote again? You are basically committing to give ebay more money in fees even when they do absolutely nothing to actually promote your item! It makes no sense.
Let me know if i am misunderstanding this new fee structure because this is the proverbial 23rd "nail in the coffin for PL" if they are now charging extra fees for no advertising- just based on a "we gotcha"

·3 years agoI stopped promoting and just list more and more items....because I offer free Domestic Shipping...today my sales are all International Shipping where buyer pays for shipping...which is quite unusual...Not one domestic buyer in 2 days...very odd.

To briefly answer your question, a click on one of your Sponsored listings starts a 30 day clock. If a buyer returns, and purchases SOMETHING else (that is in a PL campaign) you will be charged a PL fee even though the original click was for a different product.
eBay has had so many willing "takers" or participants in PLs they are simply ramping it up to get more money.

is to stop using promoted listings.
If ebay is pushing something it is for one reason and one reason only - it benefits them.
As I have said on these discussion boards before - if everyone is promoting than nothing is promoted.

Thanks for the link. That was an interesting read.
So it's confirmed... This change is a completely devistating blow the sellers that use PL. It has absolutely no value to the program or sellers or buyers. It's not an improvement of an algorithm change that makes the search results more relevant.
They literally are just ch arguing more for nothing. Basically is you promote listing and you sell one.... Every other PL you have will be charged pl fees for the next 30 days?! Even if they were organic search results. What a dastardly joke!
If only sellers would band together and push back. All they have to do is stop using PL for a week to send the message that they will not stand for being ripped off....
I'm glad I made the decision to never promote again several years ago. I don't know why some sellers continue to let themselves be abused by this company.

·3 years agoPL has always been a "we gotcha". It has turned into a HUGE revenue stream for eBay at the sellers expense. It is a race to the bottom as sellers continually increase their PL percentage to maintain an edge on the competition. It is a classic prisoners delima. If sellers cooperated and all quit using PL the playing field would level. However, that is not in the nature or people or business and somebody is always looking for an edge which eBay is providing at a price.
Not sure what HALO refers to I have never fell into the PL trap but my guess is another way to increase eBay revenues.
