Processing shipping refunds on item that buyer picked up in person
I sold 3 items, each one with shipping extra. Buyer paid.
Then buyer, who lives close by, decided to pick up the items in person to save on the shipping charges, so I deleted the tracking information and simply marked each as "Shipped" in my Seller Hub.
After buyer picked up her items in person and left happy earlier today, I refunded each item's shipping charge.
I usually immediately receive a "Hang tight... we're processing your refund request" email from eBay. But I haven't received it, it doesn't appear anywhere in the "Order Details" in my Seller Hub as a "Partial Refund", and the buyer hasn't received anything yet, either. The partial refunds also don't show up in my Payments Recent Activity. It's as though I never even processed her refunds.
Am I doing something wrong? Will I be going to eBay's cell in the netherworld? Did I process the refunds out of order before deleting the tracking and marking them as shipped?
I've been here for 28 years now, and I know better than to take any sale off eBay. But could I be in trouble for refunding the buyer's shipping charges when she decided instead to pick up her purchases in person? Or could it be just another eBay glitch or delay?
I often believe in the saying, "I may be paranoid, but that doesn't mean you're NOT out to get me!" LOL
Any input would be appreciated.
Cheers, Duffy

OP7 months agoUPDATE: Problem solved. I ran the refunds again and they took. Most likely my simple error in forgetting to hit the "Refund Now" button. - OR - perhaps trying to refund the items before they're marked as shipped. Most likely the first explanation. (Cheesy Cheshire Cat smile of my face.)
Go ahead - let me have it. I can take it...

·7 months agoHuman error happens. You figured it out pretty quick so it sounds like you're good here, and the buyer is also happy.

·7 months agoHow long ago did you do it? Sometimes it takes 20 minutes (that would be typical although I've had them go through before I got on to processing the next one).
There is sometimes delays. Did you get an email saying they are processing it? I've also had it happen where I forgot to click the final button.
I'd wait, tell the customer you're on it and there appears to be a glitch, but "don't worry I promise I'll refund your shipping". Most people are cool with waiting a day. If you didn't get the email, I'd say it hasn't gone through. If you did get the email, it's probably delayed.
From what I can tell you didn't do anything wrong, unless you missed clicking the final confirm button.

OP7 months agoNo emails yet from eBay - nothing.
It's been a couple hours so far, and I've been in touch with the buyer, who's been really nice about the potential delay. She knows I'm working on it.
I thought I may have forgotten to hit the confirm button, but I don't think so... I wouldn't put it past me, though. I just don't want to double refund if there's an eBay delay or glitch.
I also checked our Seller's Forum here, and don't see any other OP with a similar problem... yet.
If this remains, what I may do is try another refund again in a couple hours and double-check my steps.
Thanks, C!
