Problems with Ebay Watch authenticator
I listed a Breitling Superocean watch for sale on eBay. A buyer purchased it . When I printed the eBay shipping label, it went to their authenticator to verify its authenticity. The authenticator rejected it, saying it was authenticate, but the listing description was inaccurate because the watch did not run. The buyer instantly wanted out of the purchase. I agreed, and apologized for the problem. When I got the watch returned to me, I set the time and it ran perfectly! It has been running accurately for several days.! I complained to the authenticator representative in a phone conversation. He said they thought the watch needed a service. That is not what they posted as a reason for rejection. If they had said that, it would have been up to the buyer to reject or negotiate the price. Instead, it looks like I deliberately lied about the watches condition. Their rejection of the watch for not running was not true. It cost me the sale of the watch. and, they tarnished my reputation as a 100% positive seller. What is the recourse when I never asked to send it to the authenticator, eBay did?

·7 months agoIt's common for watches in need of cleaning and lube to start and stop running. Changes in temperature or a bit of shaking can get them restarted or stopped . Some will run for some time only to stop again. Also running them in such condition causes more wear and increases the repair costs.

·7 months agoThe authentication of watches are done by a watch repair shop(employees...anyone working there at the time will look at them) and they like have the worst Yelp reviews...

·7 months agoSkip, a few yrs. ago, there was another post with a similar problem. That buyer, though, listed the name of the authenticator, which happened to be located approx. 8 miles from me. Desiring to be of assistance, I phoned the owner of a local pawn shop, with whom I regularly shopped, for his opinion. He stated neither he nor, to his knowledge, other owners, due to past problems, used the company in question. I do not recall the name of the business, but, as you phoned them, their area code was 937 and the zip would be 45459.

·7 months agoI had an expensive ring that went to authentication. I had said the size was 7. And it was 7.5. The authentication people contacted me and said that I could contact the buyer, explain my error and see if they still wanted it. They did and it went on to the customer.

It's very possibly human error but since it passed authentication and you claim it's running perfectly, you can certainly relist it. If it sold once, it'll sell again.

·7 months agoThere is no recourse other than sell your watch somewhere else. You risk having the same issue happening again.
