Problem with buyer. USPS delivered. He said that I didn't.
Sold an item. Buyer paid. No problem. Shipped the item and it was delivered to buyer's provided address soon thereafter. USPS and EBay both confirm. Great!
Six days later, buyer contacts me and says that he never received the item. I provide pics of his address and the delivery confirmations. He said that he did not receive the item. I advise him to open a claim with USPS that his item was never delivered. It was under $100. He doesn't respond in a positive way. Then he opens a claim with Ebay stating that he never received the item. I once again told him that his beef is with USPS (if there actually is one). He has continued with seeking a refund. I get the Money Back Guarantee but everything according to Ebay and USPS says that he has received his purchase. If USPS has delivered it somewhere else (always possible), then I shouldn't have to pay for their mistakes.
Looking at from my perspective, he could actually have the item, get a refund from me, and open a claim with USPS, get his money back plus more and have his purchase! Is this crazy to anyone else?

·5 months agoMany are mentioning the possibility of a chargeback.
Has anyone dealt with this exact situation -- a chargeback after buyer acknowledges purchasing an item and USPS shows delivered but buyer claims it wasn't delivered?
I haven't dealt with buyer chargebacks yet, but seems this would be the easiest fact pattern to win.

·5 months agoI have lost every single chargeback I ever tried to fight. The tools you are given are not enough to even begin to fight the chargeback, and then you also lose the $20 fee for fighting the chargeback.

If the buyer opens an "item not received" case, re-enter the USPS Tracking number in the space provided on the form -- on the same form, you may message the buyer that "USPS confirms delivery to your address at {enter time} on {enter date}," and email the completed form back to eBay.
Then do NOTHING -- do not respond to any further messages from the buyer. None.
After a few days, eBay will close the "item not received" case in your favor.

·5 months agoRe-affirming what others have told you: There is tracking proving delivery. If he opens an item not received case, you upload that tracking to the case and his claim will be disallowed. This is the reason that sellers use tracking, for their protection.
How do you figure he could get a refund from you under these circumstances?

·5 months agoIf they opened an item not received case then just provide the tracking number in the case that shows delivered
Should be a slam dunk for you

·5 months agoThese are the easiest to fight.
Simply respond with the tracking number showing "delivered".
You'll win the case a few days.
Keep in mind....
That the buyer can still do a chargeback with his/her credit card.
Good luck.

·5 months agoIt's not a USPS issue. it actually is your issue if your buyer has reached out to you. Your buyer needs to open an Item Not Received (INR) case. You will get a notice and will then upload tracking to show that it has been delivered. As you did your job, and so did the USPS, ebay will refund your buyer. That is one of the ways buyer protection works.
Your customer can open a case with USPS, but that doesn't concern you. The buyer has the tracking to provide to USPS so that is all they need.
Good luck to you.

·5 months agoeBay will refund the buyer? Maybe as a one-time courtesy refund, but I would not want to promise the buyer that that's going to happen.
The most that is officially supposed to happen in this situation is that eBay will find in the seller's favor (and therefore not require a buyer refund) as long as tracking shows a Delivered status to the City and ZIP of the Ship-To: address received with the payment. If the buyer does file an Item Not Received claim, the seller needs to check that the tracking number has been uploaded to the case.

·5 months agoIf tracking states 'delivered' it is done.
Add tracking if a claim is open.

There is that credit card chargeback a buyer might do as a last resort.
