Post Office reduced shipping

I was informed starting today the post office here (and other places) is no longer sending anything out the day you mail it. What I mailed today will sit until Monday. Anything Monday will sit until Tuesday before being transferred to the closest sorting facility. They are trying to eliminate all their 2nd shift work. This is going to create a backlog of packages and a big decrease in delivery times. Of course, the shipping fees are not going to go down to reflect the lack of service. I was told priority mail will now be 3 to 5 days, even express mail will not be sent out, it will take 3 days. It's ridiculous, and very short sighted.

·1 month agoThey started this last year, any PO, 50 miles or further from a sorting center will not have evening pick ups. Its suppose to save the PO money, they don't have to pay for gas and workers for the afternoon drive. My PO is 47 miles so I lucked out, the rural carriers like it because they don't have to stop and drive back to the PO before 5pm for the evening truck.
There probably be a back up the 1st weekend or 2 while the PO's get adjusted. Best to adjust your handling time for the extra day

·1 month agoIt’s been like that here for a while. Mail goes out of town five days a week at 10 a.m. I either pack the night before or pack and ship by 5 p.m. to catch the next morning’s outbound run.
Saturdays outbound has to be posted by Friday 5pm.
Check your post office’s outbound times to adjust your schedule more efficiently.

Where is the "backlog" being created? They still move 1,000 packages a day - they will just do them all one day later. That is a a one-day delay, but I cfail to see how that would create a backlog.
A one day delay in getting packages out will result in a one day longer delivery time. I suppose you could call that "big" but I would not.
I have been told a lot of things. Some of them turn out to be true; others do not.

·1 month ago · EditedIf you still want something to "go out the day you mail it," you can just drive it to its destination yourself. That'll save you the "shipping fees" as well.

·1 month agoThis has been in place for some time at varies locations. There has already been an increase in the length of time packages get to destination because of this among other things. This has been announced by Ebay.

·1 month agoAround here (Wisconsin) it has been this way for a while. Only one shipment a day and weekend packages don't get sent out til Monday. From a seller's standard point as long as you get the acceptance scan you should be OK. Ebay's ETD hopefully will reflect the longer delivery times.

·1 month agoI've experienced this for a long time too. Packages come into the sorting center (which is about 25 miles from me) and I don't usually receive them until two days later.

·1 month agoIn many POs that has been the case since the USPS limited transfers to the sorting centers to once a day.
60% of the country has sorting centers more than 50 miles from them and the one trip per day rule has applied for over a year.
Many of us have experienced this, and survived.
