Possible scam? Two different locations
Hi all, I’m selling a rather expensive item and had it listed on other sites where I ran into scammers, so I’m being a little cautious here. I accepted an offer from someone whose user name is saying textname(insert their number) I didn’t notice the name when I accepted, but I find that weird and know better than to text and take a sale off of a site. The second issue is that their actual name and address are listed different. Two different names and address. One being a US address and one Canada. Should I just cancel it? Is it easy to scam people here? I’ve never used eBay before.

So glad you are asking these safety questions— they would have been even safer to ask prior to listing items. There are a lot of rules and procedures to learn when selling on eBay. Not knowing what the policies are can put you at the mercy of scammers. You need to know as much as they do about using the site. This is necessary to protect your interests.
To be as effective an advisor as possible and to tailor advice for you, it would be very helpful to know 1) what is the item, 2) the item category, and 3) the price point, if you feel comfortable sharing it.
Sellers should not try to mitigate or manage risk by cancelling sales. eBay takes quite a dim view of seller’s who abandon sales after the purchase. It can get you in some really hot water with eBay.
But to answer your questions: Having a user name with the addition of a number as you described is not out of the ordinary here on eBay. Some international buyers use forwarding services to gain access to sellers who only ship domestically.
And secondly, it is common to have entirely different addresses and names under the same transaction. Those will be buyers who are shipping gifts to friends and family. But they must provide the correct shipping information during checkout, not after the fact.
Sellers should only ship to the official address of record given at checkout. This is to keep eBay seller protections in place, as they are not nearly as plentiful nor as potent as buyer protections are.
Below is the link to the eBay Money Back Guarantee policy that governs virtually all transactions on eBay. Study this policy carefully to arm yourself against potential scammers. Like just about every selling venue online, risk cannot be altogether avoided; it can only be mitigated.
So before listing an item, each seller needs to establish their risk tolerance for it, by asking themselves, “can i afford to take a financial loss on this item?†In this way, those costly cancellations can be avoided, as eBay reserves the right to penalize sellers who cancel transactions without the buyer’s approval and request.

·2 years agoMissing a few details but it is possible that the buyer is using a freight forwarder and the textname...... is affiliated with their freight forwarder account. I see nothing listed on this account so I am assuming this is your posting account and not the one you sell with.
If you are a new seller there are some basic cautions you should take until you gain some experience. First rule NEVER list anything on eBay you are not prepared to take the financial loss on. Avoid listing high value, high target items for scammers. Understand that specifying "seller does not accept returns" does NOT translate to no refunds.
If you listed the item, but buyer purchased and paid and your seller hub indicates the item is awaiting shipment you should ship it. If you were to cancel what reason would you use to cancel the order?

·2 years agoIf any buyer is making any type of offer to take the sale offsite, it is a scam.
Did not understand exactly what the 2nd issue is.
