It is getting crazy. Interestingly enough articles found in the mails with counterfeit postage will be considered abandoned and may be opened and disposed of at the Postal Service's discretion.
It's at pandemic level with counterfeit stamps from China in the US. I am positive it is negatively impacting the USPS bottom line. Not to mention a lot of people who do buy them get caught or lose their money. I have actually seen pop-up ads on eBay selling them. Why eBay allows this, I have no idea. I believe as the one person who replied here - "I always just assume that anything shipping from China is counterfeit."
I handle collector coins and one time I read an article about counterfeit coins being made in China. It showed a photo of thousands of US coin dies in this one small room located in China. It's a shame.
