PayPal charge on sold item - Very High
Hi, I just sold my first item for $22 and I noticed a PayPal charge for $6.78! Eek!! That’s a lot like 31%!!! Is this typical?

·3 years agothat sure is awfully high. I stopped using PayPal a year ago and use pending, available funds, or through my bank account. Seems to be less expensive.

·3 years agoThat's the postage cost required to buy the label for that particular item to go to that buyer's address using the selected Shipping method. The source of the payment (PayPal vs. Pending Funds) has no effect on the price of the label.

·3 years agoYes, it’s typical when you purchased your shipping label using PayPal instead of using pending or available funds.

·3 years agoEBay sellers have not been paid through Paypal for a couple of years now.
When we were, our fees were split between eBay and Paypal, and in time, with PP being immediate and eBay fees showing up to 30 days later.
MP is much more transparent, but many sellers are finding for the first time that their side hustle is an expensive hobby.
BTW, once you look at your buyer's ENTIRE payment, you will see that the percentage is much lower than you though.
(There is also a non-refundable service charge of 30c on every transaction which is a lot on a low value sale.)

·3 years agoThat's your Shipping charge. Evidently your current settings will draw your Shipping cost from your PayPal account, as I'm seeing $6.78 as your Shipping when viewing your Sold listing.
You can change your settings to draw the postage cost from your pending funds (your buyer's payment that eBay has received) instead. (The buyer did actually pay for that cost as you are not offering Free Shipping, so you don't need to front that expense from your PayPal account.) Look for the choice at the lower left of your Shipping form for that item.

·3 years agoDid you print your shipping label through ebay, and if so, how did you find the payment? It sounds like you opted (or ebay opted for you) to fund the postage cost through paypal and that is the cost of your label.
You can see the final value fees broken down for you if you click on the item in payments.

Are you not in Managed Payments?
And, if you are referring to your final value fee as a seller, that fee is calculated on the total of the item price, the shipping cost and the state sales tax, if applicable.
