Paying at least 18% commission with excellent selling record

This doesn't include insertion fees or promoted listings. Other sellers with inferior records to mine are paying 12 to 15%. Have 100% positive feedback. In 24 years and over 15,000 sales I've had no more than 10 negatives and maybe 15 neutrals. Have 100% stars in all 4 main categories. Have above average defects. They might not like the fact that I take 1 to 4 days to ship items. The big auction houses will take over a month. A postcard dealer no better than me told me he only pays 12% commission. Many top rated sellers have 94 to 99% positive feedback. What gives?

You stated this in your OP - "Have above average defects." Sounds like you have a Below Average seller rating" - not a good thing. Need to correct this soon or it may be "Turn out the lights the party's over" A song Willie Nelson and Gene Watson made popular and Dandy Don Meredith sang on MNF when the score was very lopsided.

If you have too many defects, it sounds like you are paying the penalty fee of 6% for being below standard.

Who is "they" when you are talking about your handling time? As long as the handling time stated on your listings is accurate, Ebay is fine. But if you are taking longer than the handling time on your listings, Ebay does care about that very much.

Comparing Ebay to some unnamed big auction house will only cause you to be unnecessarily puzzled. Ebay only has about 20% or less auctions on the site. Ebay has been primarily a Buy It Now type of site for about the last decade, as in most categories, buyers are really big on auctions.

FYI, you are NOT currently a TRS. Your feedback rate has nothing to do with this.

Can you give an example of the fee details for a sale that works out to 18%?

Could also be the other sellers are calculating theirs wrong and/or not giving you the full picture. Unless you all are sharing screenshots and calculating together, there could be a bit of that causing the discrepancy...

Based on the information you provided I'd work on getting those defects down.

Your feedback score and duration on site is meaningless compared to you having above average defects.

I thought that at first, but I'm not sure about that. They are also not TRS. Besides they said the 18% has nothing to do with Promoted Listing, so there isn't a category that has an 18% FVF that I'm aware of. I could be wrong.

How exactly are you calculating, or where are you getting, that 18% + figure? While it is true the effective eBay percentage rate is higher than what the fee policy shows due to the FVF being applied to shipping and sales tax I have never had the effective rate exceed 16%. If you are promoting your listings that probably has something to do with the high percentage rate but you made that choice.

Here are today's eBay selling fees (read link below )- fees can vary depending on the category you are selling. What your selling history is or was doesn't mean so much unless you are Below Average status.

BTW - your FB rating is based on the last 365 days not your entire selling history. FB DOES NOT enter in to your seller ratings - it used to but not for several years.
