PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR DEFECTS
Unfortunately I rarely look at my "defect" rating because I ship on time and I always handle customer issues so I do not expect to have any defects.
I have learned my lesson. My fault I know but who expects a company like eBay to cheat?
Today I am perusing my account and lo and behold, two late shipment defects. I check them. One was purchased Sunday, December 31, 2023. Jan 1st is a Holiday. Shipped January 2 early (I have 2 day handling time). Yet because it was delivered late I have a ding. Huh?
Second ding. Buyer paid on a Sunday, June 23, 2024. Shipped next day, early on June 24. Delivered late. I get a ding.
Can't appeal because it has been too long. Is eBay so desperate to give out dings and hopefully get you to a point you are paying more in fees?
I'm not there yet, but I don't sell a lot so only a few of these will get me.

·1 year agoI ship within my handling time, upload tracking that's validated by a carrier scan.
I handle my returns and INRs without eBay stepping in.
I never ship late.
I never cancel transactions for out of stock.
So why would I need to "pay attention"?

·1 year agoI have better advice than "pay attention to your defects".
My advice: "Try not to get defects in the first place."

·1 year agoIDK if this matters but what are your shipping day parameters. Like do you say you ship within 2 days BUT only ship Monday to Friday and NOT holidays or weekends? IDK if e bay has this ability. I know Etsy does. I never looked into it for E bay as I usually ship in a day but hopefully always within my 3 day set up.

OP1 year agoMy standard is 2 business days. Sometimes I do a bulk edit to change it to 1 business day to shake up the algo, but usually change it back in a couple days. I have never included weekends or holidays. Not sure its an option.

·1 year agoIf you don't sell a lot, perhaps you will use these defects as a reminder to check on what's happening with your sales and shipping more closely?

OP1 year agoI will keep an eye on what eBay is doing with my sales and shipments for sure. I already keep track of what I am doing with shipping and tracking scans.
Just trying to give others who feel like they are doing absolutely everything they can to do a good job that they also have to check on what eBay might be doing so they don't wait too long like I did to request an appeal.

·1 year agoHere's what the Late Shipment Rate standards says:
"If you ship on time and upload validated tracking or your buyers tell us the shipment was on time when they leave feedback, you're all set."
So simply shipping on time is not enough. 'Validated' means that it also receives a tracking scan within your handling time.
You need one of these three things to avoid a ding:
Only one of those is within a seller's control, and that is why I always go to the counter and get a scan when I drop off packages.

OP1 year agoThanks. I know this. I got a ding another time on another account. I knew I would get it because the package was picked up but not scanned for four days. Delivered late. I complained to the local post office and they always scan at the box now. I don't think they want me fussing at them anymore. 😀
I follow tracking like it was expecting the item, not like I sent it so I would have noticed if these two had not been scanned on time.
Plus if you have any defects, take a look a them. Ebays own system despite the age of these shows that the items were scanned on the dates I show above. I also screen shot all shipments after delivery and save those since tracking disappears after a time. Both show shipped and scanned one day early.
I sometimes change to one day shipping, but not often. Even if it had been one day shipping they would still have been shipped and scanned on time.

·1 year agoIt is indeed unfortunate that you follow tracking and not your status. I follow my seller status, not my tracking, because I see right in front of me it every time I go to the seller hub.
