Just a question...I sold on Ebay and Etsy sometime back. Are people really paying these outrageous prices for used items?
Also the shipping is beyond belief🙄

·6 months agoShipping is going to go higher very soon, because of the rapidly rising cost of oil as the war on Iran continues.
As to the original question.
The reason we are selling is that we have stuff but we want money.
The reason others are buying is that they have money but want stuff.
Never second guess what a buyer is willing to pay.

You have been an eBay member since January 2005.
Many, many, many shipping increases during the past 21 years.
And, yes, people really are "paying these outrageous prices for used items" -- and have been doing so for hundreds of years before eBay.

·6 months agoThere is a big difference between the asking price of some sellers and the price that previous listings sold for.

It depends on what outrageous prices you are talking about. And there are numerous reasons why people pay the prices they do. If someone wants a certain hard-to-find item for their collection, they will sometimes pay ridiculous money to get that item. If it is a discontinued item that is now very hard to find, people will pay more when one pops up. Pre-owned clothing is an over saturated category but if a person finds an item they want, they might pay more to get it because it is their size in a brand and color they want and they can't find it anywhere else. But I have also seen people pay high prices for items that can easily be bought at any store; this can be because they hate to go shopping in retail stores, they can't go shopping because they are infirm or ill, or any number of other reasons.
As far as shipping costs, that is not the fault of the sellers. Have you looked at what it costs to ship items nowadays? Shipping is high and USPS keeps raising their rates; I don't use UPS or FedEx but I assume they do too. And then there is the cost of shipping supplies, boxes, tape, bubble wrap, etc. which are all very expensive.

·6 months agoThey are, it costs as much or more to run to the store, the reason the prices are high is because the shipping is outrageous (also the cost of "free" returns is likely being baked into the price).

How long ago is "sometime back?" 25 years ago? 15 years ago? 10 years ago? During Covid? Post-Covid?
What exactly do you mean by "outrageous prices?" What items are you talking about? Do you mean a "used" set of kitchen pans? Do you mean some "used" vintage item that cannot be found on eBay?
I'd like to know what you base your opinion on, or whether you just make stuff up in your head. Hopefully you can chime in with some specific answers so I can tell you whether I agree or disagree with your statements. Thank you.
