overdue shipping
Summary: daffyanddills faced an issue with overdue shipping after agreeing to a buyer's request to delay shipment, leading to concerns about the impact on their seller rating. Participants suggested shipping within the promised timeframe and not altering schedules based on informal buyer requests to avoid negative effects on account ratings. ryry-jj noted that automated processes should be strictly followed, while others advised either shipping immediately or canceling the sale if the buyer requests a delay. Several participants agreed that sellers should adhere to platform policies to safeguard their ratings.
I had a buyer contact me to hold the item to ship until 7/6. It was due to ship 7/3 so now I have an overdue shipping request. Does anyone have thoughts on how this effects my rating? I should have maybe printed the label but didn't. Is there a way to get the overdue shipping off my account?

·3 months agoNo, because you set a shipping time and didn't fulfill that.
Printing the label wouldn't have helped because you need a scan within your handling time.
I don't let my buyers dictate when I ship

·3 months agoYour first mistake was to agree to that buyer's request.
I would elaborate but it's too much to explain.

·3 months agoJust ship the item or cancel. They made the purchase under explicit terms.

·3 months agoIf a buyer wants to delay shipment, they can delay their purchase.
In the future you either ship right away or refund them. Cancelling order with the reason "buyer requested". If a problem arises, you have their communication on file as proof that they didn't want to complete the sale in the timeframe you are required to fulfill it in.

·3 months agoIn the future I would tell the buyer that per ebay policies you need to ship within your stated shipping time. If they want a delay they need to put a hold on their mail with the USPS (if that is what is being used). FedEx and UPS also have processes for later delivery.
It is not up to you to delay shipping. It is up to the buyer to make arrangements.

·3 months ago · EditedThe eBay seller standards policy explains exactly how this affects your seller rating.

·3 months agoit is what it is if you ship late, regardless if a buyer requests you to hold or not. It all depends on how many sales you have as to how much it effects your account. I wouldn't worry too much about, but going forward always ship within your listing stated time.
I've been saying, eBay if automated, and we need to follow all the automated steps, no more chit-chat with buyers on deliveries, refunds or anything else...we just now push buttons. I know this goes against what eBay has always said, "work it out with your buyer"...no more, follow the policies to the manor you listed
