Out of country buyer wants to ship to US address
Hi there, I've had an ebay account for many, many years both buying and selling. I'm in the US. I have an item that I listed and a UK buying asked about buying it. He said it would be shipped to a US address as a gift. How do I protect myself? The buyer has good feedback but I also know ebay accounts can get hacked. I hate to ignore the sale if this is totally normal but is there a way to protect myself from a scam (losing the money and the product)?
Thank you so much,
-Stephen

·2 years agoYou will be given the same protections as you get for any US transaction.
I see no issue if eBay allows the transaction.
When the purchaser pays it will go through fraud detection.
As long as you ship to the address on the order, there is no issue, and you will have all the seller protections.

·2 years agoAre you enrolled in ebay's EIS (ebay international shipping)?
That would be the best (and safest) way to ship to the UK.
Very little risk.

The buyer is in the UK. They want it shipped to a US location, so EIS would not be involved so long as the buyer is able to change their shipping address to a US location BEFORE THEY PAY.
Now we all are aware that eBay allows international buyers to provide a US address to circumvent the restriction of US only sales. How does the OP's buyer accomplish that? Where do they sign up? There have been reports over the years that indicate there may be issues with this.
For instance, if you lived in France, and I wanted to purchase something from an eBay seller in France to be shipped to you my true and loyal friend in Paris, NOT TO ME IN THE US, am I still denied the option as previously reported?

·2 years agoThe buyer isn't "circumventing" anything, they are in fact complying with the Seller's requirement to ship only within the US.
There is no policy on eBay that restricts selling to foreign buyers, the only restriction is that the ship to address must be within the US.

·2 years agoFor me it kinda depends on the amount of the item if it is expensive or cheap.
Cheapie item I have no problem if buyer has similar feedbacks relating to what your are selling.
If it's expensive no...I would mail it only to the address as it shows on the payment.
I had a recent buyer(potential) who wanted to know if I would mail something to Portugal instead where he lives in South Africa. I told him sorry but I prefer not to. He had no recent feedback...a year.
And he is on my block buyer list...but that's just me.

·2 years agoBuyers are allowed to enter a different address when they make payment. If the buyer uses the 'gift' address when they pay you that is the address that you will see on the transaction and that's where you send it. You will be covered just like you are for any transaction.

·2 years agoShip to the address on the order, period. They can edit the address even to be in a different country than their primary location, so that's no problem. As long as they put the address correctly on the order, just ship it.
