Buy a bookcase or shelving unit a tad bit smaller and go from there. Maybe a bin or two for smaller items and boxes and such stacked in incremented sizes. That is the ideal but chances are no matter what you'll end up with something like this.
I won't be able to describe this well, but years ago, I remember someone putting together various size boxes horizontally with duct tape to store various sizes of boxes(broken down). The openings faced out so they could just grab the size they needed.....biggest/heaviest boxes on the bottom. Was rather ingenious, but they had a space where a rack wouldn't fit. Also remember someone suggesting that if you were an empty nester and had a bathtub/shower stall that wasn't used, was a great place to store boxes.

Luv do it yourself stuff..........for years lived with bookshelves made out of bricks/concrete blocks and picked up lumber.
