Organic or Promoted
Why does it seem that when I sell an item it's listed as an organic sale. Then after processing it flips to promoted and Ebay gets their cut. This doesn't happen all the time but more than I'm comfortable with. Is there a timeline where Ebay has to confirm this?

·2 years agoHello. There does seem to be a little lag sometimes. If I really want to know right away as to whether an item sold with promoted fees or not, I found a way. Go to Performance and click on Traffic. Page down to Sales. There, you will see that the color bar will indicate whether a promoted sale occurred. This does not give a dollar amount, but at least it is a heads-up. In any case, it is not much of a lag anyway, usually only until the customer pays. I hope this helps.

·2 years agoSo, the correct answer is that eBay's system sometimes needs longer to recognize that it came from a promoted listing. This process can take up to 72 hours, you will also see traffic changes on your performance charts where traffic will change from organic to promoted.
Conspiracy is that eBay is tagging orders randomly that are organic with promoted to increase their profits.
But I'm curious about your remark about what you are 'comfortable with'. Do you just stay uncomfortable or leave eBay?
I'm just saying this to tell you to expect to be uncomfortable, because this isn't changing.

·2 years agoI just assumed EBAY would charge me "promotion fee" for all my sales. I just checked and was surprised that I was only charged promotion fee on 2 items (over the past 60 days).

OP2 years agoThanks for the info. I don't believe there's any conspiracy I just needed the timeline of when Ebay determines organic or promoted. I have a successful business on Ebay so I'm obviously not leaving.
