Order confirmed but I never placed the order

I just received an "Order Confirmed" email for something I didn't actually purchase.

I viewed the seller's item the day before to get pricing guidance for one I have to sell.

I did not view the item today, but I suddenly received an order confirmation for a supposed

purchase of the item.

I submitted a cancellation request within 15 minutes of receiving the confirmation and hopefully the seller will cancel. If not, I will get my money back eventually. I have been on eBay for 23 years and this is the first time this has happened. Is there way to prove within the "system" that I never actually ordered?

I am curious if anyone else is experiencing this on the buyer or seller end?

@collectopotomus If you’re on a device that allows you to see your browsing history if it hasn’t been too many days since, and you were on the eBay website not on the eBay app, you may be able to look back for the page were you “bought” and what pages led up to it. This could help figure out how this happened.

This happened to me within the past year.

I was shopping for boxes to purchase with my eBay store discount, and in scrolling past other listings to price compare, I "purchased" boxes that I definitely DID NOT purchase.

I caught it in time and requested for the Seller to cancel it.

For everyone here saying you must have purchased it if eBay says you did -- wrong.

It happened to me.

The extremely awesome way to make sure this doesn't happen is: Don't buy and sell from the same account.

Same thing happened to me last year. Here is how this happened to me:

I looked at a listing to get a price. Because I looked at it, the seller of that item gets a SEND OFFER on the listing. So the seller sent you an offer. You most likely just listed the same item and you thought someone sent you an offer to buy your item. So you accepted it, but you actually bought it. I cancelled it right away just like you did.

They need to stop the SEND OFFER Program on sellers listings.

Ah...........good explanation on what might have happened!!! I've "almost" done that also.....

IMHO eBay's policy decisions should be based on what is best for eBay, not based on protecting lazy people who are not paying attention.

I've heard of something similar sent to your private email.........and it is a scam.........but never heard of it actually in ebay messages and paid for (?).

I sincerely doubt the system has a record that says you did not order it ... because that same system has a record that says you did order it.
