Offers While Running A Sale Event
Summary: southernsalesservices expressed frustration over receiving offers and queries during their store's sale events, which are already heavily discounted. They wish for a feature to disable the offer option temporarily. jonathanbrightlight and thriftyfiftyfifty suggested using the bulk edit tool to manage offers, although southernsalesservices noted the challenge of resetting offers due to varying item values. mamacassidy recommended removing the offer option during sales to avoid misunderstandings with buyers. The discussion also touched on methods to use spreadsheets for bulk updating, albeit with some complexity.
There's got to be a way to turn your offers OFF while running a sale event.
Most large holidays, our store runs large sale events. 50% off of most items and 20% off of high dollar items. With those sales, come an influx in volume of viewers, messages, and offers. We usually take most offers into consideration while sales are not running. However, we're not interested, even slightly, in entertaining offers while sale events are running, especially not when majority of our items are going for 50% off during those sales (mind you the product that we sell is already close to 50% off of retail pricing elsewhere, before a sale event).
We get nasty comments from know-it-all buyers about how ridiculous it is that we'd have an offer button present if we're not going to accept them, and are subsequently questioned about why we would have our listings set up that way.
The messages with offers and questions about our "lowest price", become tedious and time consuming to respond to while trying to keep up with messages from buyers with spec questions about product and shipping.
Is there a way to turn them off completely for the duration of sale events and have it reappear once the event has concluded? If not, it would be extremely convenient if we could get that option at some point in the future. Would be a time saver, and cause less irritation for sellers.

·3 weeks agoUsing the bulk editor tool shouldn't be that hard for the amount of items you have. I have used it to manually add or change hundreds of items and it just takes a few minutes (even if you scroll through all and add each one individually).
I definitely would remove them if I were you. Any time I see "Best Offer" on a listing, that tells me the seller will take less. And I would never be one of those "know-it-all" buyers who say nasty comments, but I would definitely be annoyed if you're advertising Best Offer but then not actually accepting offers.

OP3 weeks agoI completely agree with your statements. I'm not super familiar with using the bulk editing tool for this particular circumstance, but we're getting there. Thanks for the advice!

·3 weeks agoMy immediate thought is if it's worth it to Bulk Edit and use the "Offers" option in the Bulk Edit Dropdown. Then select Don't Allow Offers. Repeat to turn back on. Might get a little tricky turning them back ON if you have different values assigned to each for Minimum/Auto Accept.

·3 weeks agoYou can bulk edit listings, but of course you'd have to know which ones are in the sale event, which I've found isn't something you can filter or search for. I do agree with the buyers that if you're absolutely not interested in entertaining offers, you should not have that option enabled. But you also as a seller need to be better about just not being so bothered by it, and you honestly don't have to even answer those if you don't want to (we do answer messages with offers on items that we aren't accepting offers on, but just with a copy/paste message).

OP3 weeks agoWe try to make sure we answer everyone's questions, which is why its become so tough to keep up with. Bulk editing is definitely a possibility. We're only not interested in entertaining offers while these sale events are running just because the discounts during these sales is pretty hefty. And like the above seller mentioned, turning them back ON is what presents the issue with bulk editing to get them back on. Each value, is not the same for each item.
Appreciate the response. Hoping to see an auto feature soon to mitigate this.

·3 weeks ago@southernsalesservices It can still be done...by "tricky" I was referencing the Bulk Edit Tool. You can't reset Minimums/Auto Accepts back to ALL your Listings because it requires a Value already in it. But...if you use the "Edit Best Offer" feature on your Active Listings Page "Actions" Dropdown in Seller Hub, you can make those adjustments without the need for Values already being present. It's not really a full Bulk Edit there because it limits you to Editing 200 Listings (basically One Page) at a time. Once you try it this way, you will see on-screen that it works quite well because it uses Percentages/Amounts based off the CURRENT PRICE of each item and sets Minimum/Auto Values each accordingly.

·3 weeks agoThere are ways to do it with a spreadsheet and bulk upload/download, but it's not exactly straightforward and easy. I wouldn't expect it would be worth that for the number of listings you have, unless you feel like you're able to learn how that works relatively easily.

OP3 weeks agoYeah, I just spent a while trying to see what that would look like with some of the listings that we don't have currently on sale. It's definitely proving to be a little more complex than it sounds, but we'll keep chipping away and see what happens. Thank you guys for your input here. It's been helpful!
