Offers being accepted then not showing up as sold creating havoc for sellers and buyers
I am a very active seller in the hobby/model train space with over 1000 transactions a month processed on Ebay. Recently, we have noticed that when and offer comes on for an item that we accept, sometimes, and the key word is sometimes... the offer acceptance never processes as an actual order. It disappears completely and the listing remains active. Yes, I have reported the issue and opened a Case with Ebay. No fix as of yet and this seems to be happening 2 - 3 times a day on my account which is frustrating and wasting everyone's time.
The fix in the meantime is to relist the item at the agreed price and send the purchaser a message with the new listing ID number. Be sure you DO NOT promote the new listing and use the "Sell Similar" option when doing so as this avoids any promotional fees that might have been applied since Ebay cannot seem to fix the issue, they certainly do not deserve my advertising dollars on the items affected.
All Ebay can tell me is they are working on it and no one seems to really be elevating the issue that is affecting my revenue, likely your revenue and of course the mother-ship.
Anyone else having this issue? Work-around ideas welcome! Happy New Year Sellers! Wishing you all much success in 2024!

·2 years agoit's bull**bleep** !!!! ebay killing us with fees the way it is now and now this **bleep** happening to me 4 or 5 times a week as of now and I'm losing out on sales and buyers are losing out on deals... I looked in the listing's of the said items and it's under the pending offers... I mean I accepted their offer so why is it pending and the item still up for sale? this is gonna **bleep** off my buyers if I accept and then someone else buys before they pay ....

·2 years agoThis is another moronic thing eBay has done. Back when I used to sell on eBay in the late nineties (under a different username) it wasn’t so ignorant. Plenty of times buyers make impulse offers and will buy the item when they make an offer but by bouncing it around as another offer back and forth it just gives someone time to change their mind and not commit to the purchase. Not to mention how does this punish those who make offers and do not pay? Sounds like this lets them do that with impunity. eBay is a dumpster fire anymore.

·2 years agoI have had this same thing happen on 4 orders. Each time, the buyer was sent multiple offers by me. I do not require immediate payment, and I offer free shipping with orders over $35.
The buyers could accept some offers, but other offers required immediate payment. So I'd end up with different combos, like:
1. Buyer wanted to accept 12 offers. 7 were accepted and automatic combined shipping worked. Each of the other 5 came through as separate sales with full shipping cost. And all of these were paid with one payment, but broken into 6 different sales.
2. Buyer accepted 3 offers with combined shipping. 4th item came through separately at full shipping cost. Total of all 4 was over $35, and her shipping should have been free if combined shipping was working right.
3. Another buyer wanted to accept 31 offers. 9 were available to accept. 2 came through at the accepted rate but with full shipping. The other 20 offers came through at full price as one order with free shipping.
4. Another buyer had 5 combine, 7 separate, and then when she went to pay, it showed paid on her end and "awaiting payment" on my end. But the payment never came through, and when she checked her purchased items, the purchase wasn't there. She paid a 2nd time, and then the payment came through as separate orders again.
I can go on, but this is a total mess. During this same period, I had many orders that came through fine with combined shipping, so go figure.
I get a lot of my sales by sending out offers, but I'm not sending any more until this is RESOLVED AND CORRECTED.

·2 years agoI am so mad about this new change. Of course there was no notification to sellers about it at all, which just leaves a lot of confusion when you don’t understand why you’ve accepted offers on the same item multiple times and then the sale just disappears. How can they not see the negative affects of this new dumb idea? I could have sold multiple items but didn’t. My sales have tanked since this. It makes zero sense! I haven’t had a single unpaid item in years so what is the point of this??? This is just plain stupid. I’ve turned off “or best offer†on every single one of my listings because it’s absolutely pointless now. I just lowered my prices, buy it or don’t buy it I guess? 🤬🤬🤬 EBAY - GET A CLUE.

@scrapinators
eBay has apparently decided on a new plan for SELLER GENERATED OFFERS as stated in the recent seller update:
https://community.ebay.com/t5/2024-Winter-Seller-Update/Reduce-unpaid-items-when-sending-offers-to-buyers/m-p/34301787#M3
When you send an offer to a buyer, their only choices will be only to CHECK OUT, DECLINE, or INGNORE. The opportunity to 'accept', add to cart, and request a total for multiple items will not be an option. All will be separate sales at full shipping.
For a while, buyers were sent another option that did have an "accept" feature, but the seller had no control over which one the buyer would receive, which results in the crazy "combos" that @scrapinators describes. Only those with the 'accept' feature could be added to the cart and a combined shipping/invoice could be used. That can be illustrated in this discussion should you care to read it:
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/I-don-t-think-eBay-really-wants-us-to-make-sales/m-p/34216592#M2337429
It is important to note that eBay also rolled out to more and more users similar actions when a BUYER sent an offer to the seller. That resulted in the previously described "disappearing" transactions and all sorts of mayhem for both buyers and sellers.
When a buyer sent an offer, and the seller accepted, no notice was sent to the buyer. The accepted offer by the seller was renamed YOU SENT AN OFFER (to the buyer), thus becoming a seller generated offer. Buyers did not get notice that their offer was accepted, and assumed their offer was just being ignored, unless they happened to look and see that the seller SENT YOU AN OFFER. If they found that, depending on the screen they received, they could proceed to accept if that option was presented, or if it was not they could PAY if they wanted the product, decline, or ignore.
Understand it is has been weeks with no explanation from eBay. In the seller update thread linked above, they are asked again, if these buyer generated offers will continue to be renamed into seller generated offers. The replies from any eBay staff have seemingly stopped there as well as of this writing.
Whether this action is really about "unpaid items" is somewhat questionable. Indeed it is to eBay's advantage to collect multiple non-refundable transaction fees (now raised to 40 cents each) and have a higher GMV transaction count for individually paid transactions when combined shipping is removed.
eBay will say that they are "working on the combined shipping problem". At the same time mobile app users have been asking for the "Request Total" option to be available for the last three years, which lends little credibility to eBay's "working".

·2 years agoWow, what a horrible solution to a non-problem. When it happened to me I quickly thought that it was something intentional by ebay and not some error. I'm jaded and cynical that way. Sure enough, here we are.
But a quick message to the buyer explaining the issue, and a few minutes later... sale completed.
As both a buyer and seller on the platform, I don't like the pre-authorization of payment for offers either. They should just go back to the way it was, which is of course what they won't do.

·2 years agoI contacted a buyer after I accepted their offer and the guy couldn't find where I accepted his offer. I sent him the item# and he was able to find it and then pay for the item. I have another item with another buyer now that is in limbo, but can't figure out how to contact the buyer to let them know I accepted their offer. When I click on the buyer, ebay takes me somewhere else. Any help on how to message these buyers so they can know I accepted their offer?

·2 years agoi accepted an offer for 500 dollars for an item and for some reason, it morphed into sending them an offer for 500 dollars and then it just timed out after 2 days. very frustrating to miss a 500-dollar sale. it doesn't make sense. the sale should have been made at 500 since they sent me the offer and i accepted. for this reason i change all my listings to dont allow offers. ridiculous

·2 years agoYes I had it happen this morning for the 3rd time. My problem is I cannot message the buyer so I can relist at the counter offer price and then have them outright but it. It won't let me contact at all thru app. Thru browser I can get to a place where I can choose to send message about the specific item. If I put in item number I get redirected back to my message inbox. If I choose the it is not about an item box I can type message but when I try to send it gives an error like can't find item. I argued on the phone the other day for like 2 hours with like 4 different people they ended up opening a case and I have never heard from anybody. Extremely frustrating!

·2 years ago@olivecheesewhistle
I have had that happen, and I found a work-around - I go to the buyer's feedback page (not the offer page) and there should be a "contact buyer" in the upper right. It will bring up 3 (I think) bubbles you can choose from... I always pick the first one that says... this isn't about an item. I have always been able to send a message that way. I
I found that if I chose any of the other two, then I can't send a message. Makes zero sense to me. Total head scratcher! Just like not informing anybody of this "new" offer process, and making all of us scramble to figure out what is going on.
Hope it works for you.

Though originally thought if was a function of the Buyer Payment Requirement being in the Default Set to YES for the "autopay" combined shipping killer program that requires an upfront payment source for a buyer, it turned out NOT to be the case.
Interesting read.

·2 years agoUPDATE on that 'Reply with offer' I did a few hours ago.

Well this buyer opted to remind me of another reason I usually just ignore emailed offers. Ye olde 'give 'em an inch and they'll take a mile' thing, ha. It's like since we've exchanged a few hand-typed words, we're suddenly BFF's and I should be even more generous than I already agreed to be. 🤣
Her offer to me was $30 by the way, so that's what I set the 'Reply' amount for. But no, I didn't also erase the $5.45 shipping.
Luckily standing my ground appeared to be wise in this case; she went ahead and bought the item and sent 3 more friendly replies. But here's the weird thing. -Remember how it said "if the buyer accepts the offer, immediate payment isn't required"? And remember how I joked "Now watch that not be true"? Well I think my joke might have been correct! -I did not receive the usual 2 separate notifications for 'Buyer accepted your offer' and 'Buyer paid, ship now'.
I got ONLY this, and I don't know if I've ever seen that phrasing before -"confirmed a payment of ...." So I've written her to ask if she can remember what the options were, and if she had to pay immediately or not. I will update if she replies.

·2 years agoI'll chime in with my issues. This exact problem happened to me on 12/31/23. It happened to someone I know lat week. And again it happened this morning on 1/8/24. Both times offers were made on my items. Both times I accepted. But there is no record of sale. eBay just told me they are aware and working on fixing the issue. The only solution is to reach out to your potential buyers through messages and ask them to Buy It Now. You can't message them directly on the ebay app though. And you'll have to lower your item price to the price that you accepted. And then I guess you just wait and hope you can still sell your item. It's ridiculous. But I also received an offer this morning on another item, accepted, and it went fine. i was paid in no time.

·2 years agoJust wanted to report..... Its possible that they rolled this ridiculous and confusing change back already. A week ago i had the "counteroffers" I had accepted being sent back as the decline or checkout and they would go into the buyers "offers page and nobody would see them- sales lost for sure. Confirmed earlier in this post with screen shots from the buyer saying he would never had known if i had not messaged him directly.
Yesterday i had two separate similar experiences BUT both instantly said sold when i accepted their counter-offers like before this whole mess started. Both people paid within an hour or so and i was grateful that ebay decided to let them know that i accepted the offer and they need to pay instead of misrepresenting and hiding my acceptance in a return "offer".
Is anyone else still seeing the new goofy way still? Also it would be nice if an ebay rep would let us know what is actually happening.
Time wasted trying to understand and figure out these unannounced changes and time spent on the boards trying to make sense of it all comes at the cost of time listing new product....Ebay is shooting itself in the foot as well as us when they make such stupid changes.

@gurlcat
You could be correct. It could also be "by design", for other sellers have reported that "sometimes they do, sometimes they don't" randomness. Just for comparison I am going to post both screens from above together in the same post for comparison. They are again, both SELLER GENERATED offers from items on my watch list.

I just wanted to report that I just make offers on THREE items from the same seller. They do not require an upfront payment source, or I would NOT have done it. (today 1/8 at 12 noon)
All were apparently accepted, but I got no message saying so. They did not MORPH into SELLER SENT YOU AN OFFER...there were no messages at all. They just were in my cart, with a "request combined shipping" notice available, which I used.
There is still the option to check out and pay full shipping on each. I will wait for the invoice. This is a seller that I have purchased from before, so I am certain I will get one shortly.

And they wouldn't notify sellers.
And it would start like this next Wednesday, before these 'offer' things are even halfway sorted out. 🤣

·2 years agoI've noticed a lot less interaction from the blues, starting with when Trinton left (I may not have always agreed with what he had to say but at least he answered). It seems to have diminished even more since Tyler went.
valueaddedresource
·2 years agoYeah, it's been kind of a "phased rollout" as eBay would say lol
When they went from weekly open chats to monthly themed chats, that was a big red flag in my opinion and I've noticed especially over the last year or so that official eBay participation in this community has dwindled, with tags going unresponded to more often and more "drive by posting" by generic "team" IDs, like the threads on the new feedback experience where "seller_news_team" dropped some info and didn't stick around to answer questions.
eBay has said for many years that the forum is "not an official support channel" and my guess is there has been an increased sensitivity and desire for control as to what is publicly presented as "official statements" from representatives of the company.
I had noticed a while back that some posts that had been made by official eBay people who are no longer with the company had been changed to "anonymous" while others remain with the account being notated as "alumni".
For example this thread where then VP Seller Experience Harry Temkin joined the community specifically to respond to questions and concerns about the Listing Quality Report is now "anonymous"
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/New-Listing-Quality-Report/m-p/31521610/highlight/true#M1687574
And they did the same with Trinton's account as well.
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Trinton-is-going-on-Vacation/td-p/28663281
But Brian, Tyler, and Brittanie's old accounts remain under the names with the eBay designation still there, just with the word "alumni" added to show they are no longer part of the community team.
In fact, that actually ended up being kind of awkward with all their tags saying nice things about Trinton being changed to "@anonymous" in the thread marking his departure.
https://community.ebay.com/t5/Share-Community-Platform/Thank-you-and-good-luck-to-Trinton/m-p/31105071
So yeah I've definitely noticed a trend in the amount and types of participation from eBay reps here for sure.
I just hope eBay isn't considering going down the same path Etsy is - they just announced this week they will be making most of their community completely private and inaccessible to even read unless you are logged in with an active selling account.

@jjddmwi
Even if you retain those buyer requirements that require a payment source up front from the buyer, with this procedure no more auto-billing buyers/no more instant payment when you accept an offer. Buyers don't have to pay at all, so this does not help with the PROBLEM of buyers that didn't pay for the offers you accepted. Might as well turn the requirement off, at least you may get buyers that DO PAY and previously refused to comply with the pre-payment source requirement.
I think you are supposed to simply be thrilled that the listing remains live until somebody pays.

·2 years agoBTW- I had an offer accepted over the holiday and the person reached out saying that they could not pay until Wednesday. I have no issues with that- its a done deal. No mystery or miscommunications. I would rather wait for the sale to be completed than never know if they understood the backwards accepted/offer system in place now. Now we sit around wondering why they did not pay, even after we accepted the offer. Did they get the message? Was this another ebay glitch?
Who knows - its all a big guess now, but at least on paper its not an "item not paid" case- was that the real reason for the change- to impress wall street that ebay is reducing unpaid items in 1st quarter?.... or was this just a truly bad idea that slipped through again?
siamjane8
·2 years agoThis just happened to me last night! I had sent an offer out. potential buyer sent a counter-offer and i accepted- then poof- no record of sale, nothing. I had to reach out to the buyer this morning through messages on one of their listings to explain that i had accepted but ebay is making the process more confusing. I let them know that they will not be told that i accepted, but instead see another offer from me for the same price that they offered!... Confusing as heck for everyone. So far no response. No sale.
Thanks again for making something that worked well- not work at all ebay!
Please revert this very poor implementation. If an offer is accepted YOU NEED TO TELL THE BUYER- not send them an offer for the accepted price- what planet do these people live on?
1. an offer means continued negotiation- not you've won
2. buyers receive offers all the time so accepted offers parading as counter offers go unnoticed
3.acceptign an offer is a "handshake" deal- now if they wait and it sells to someone else- Ebay has made me the seller a deal breaker and a not a man of my word.- that is negative for everyone including ebay
4. We are losing sales because of this- we invest more time in sending offers but are getting less conversion because of this confusion to buyers
5. this is just common sense- just let buyer know that they have won and need to pay.

·2 years agoYes happened to a couple of my sales yesterday. I am not able to invoice the buyers . 1 buyer did pay the other has not. I tried to message the non paying buyer that fails as well.
This seems similar to Poshmark except there you have to have a payment source on file and that is used automatically when you make a purchase . If the payment rejects doesn’t process the seller knows immediately when the offer is accepted and the item remains for sale. Poshmark contacts the buyer to let them know there is an issue that needs to be resolved.
personally I’d rather my item stay for sale until it’s paid for. But would prefer consistency. I also had some items that sold in the last month that sold on offer and then sat for 3 days never got paid and had to relist, even though the buyers reached out to let me they would pay .

I see your point and that often happens to us when we decline a lowball offer or receive messages about how overpriced an item is..... it then sells for full price hours later. I have just wondered if there is "action" on a listing- ebay pushes it to the top of the search list or something. This happens all the time lol.
But with this new "not telling people their offer was accepted" stupidity, we are likely to lose more sales due to confusion or just people not being informed correctly that they actually won the item, than we will gain in waiting and hoping someone else pays full price........A bird in hand is worth more than two in the bush lol
To be fair- I am not college educated in web design or anything else for that matter.......but isn't this a case of ebay's constant lack of ability to communicate effectively?....... Why not have the message say " The Seller accepted your offer- You have won! But the item is still available for sale and not yours until you complete payment so PAY NOW- (with a nice big button.)
Seems like that would be the best of both worlds- without making a giant confusing mess of it all.

·2 years agoI came to the forums just for this reason!! In the last two days it's happened to me, and I was not aware of any changes going on, but as some people have said, they didn't exactly make an announcement.
Most sellers I follow and know have wanted the immediate pay on offer accepted for some time now, and ebay DID announce that it was being rolled out. So why the sudden change I wonder. It was working just fine. I send you an offer, you accept, pay, done. You send me an offer, I accept, you pay, done.
Both times it's happened, it was only in last 48 hours, on new offers sent to me, NOT counteroffers. I accepted it, and POOF it disappeared. Not into sold, not into awaiting payment, just gone. And yet when I looked back to the "still active" listing, it would say *username123 has won the offer* that's it.
I chalked it up to a super odd and annoying glitch and sent a msg to the buyers. They were also both super confused but happy I reached out and immediately paid. The first gentleman actually said he had to go searching thru his messages to find he'd "won" the item and pay, and after he paid he was prompted to pay again, which thankfully he didn't do. Ugh ebay.... NOT the best way to roll out 2024. Best of luck to you all in navigating this!

·2 years agoAt this point it is almost comical. How did they take a simple buyer/seller yes/no transaction and complicate it to the point of nobody knows if an offer was accepted or payed for/ is the item still for sale?/ will someone else buy it before the accepted offer pays?/ seller accepted offer- done deal- handshake complete......but ebay is telling the buyer that seller sent another offer?? for the same price?? so confusing and shady! i agree that i would walk away thinking it was spam or a scam. It is comical! Talk about a giant "screw you" to the ebay users lol- Welcome to 2024 when ebay still implements silly ideas that disrupt sales.
Again, as i always say- I do not think these employees are trying to make it worse to sell or buy here- they are genuine in their efforts, it just that they do not have an understanding of how trade interactions work. It must just be generational or poor schooling/ lack of real life experience.......

Just because you are willing to accept a lower price shouldn't remove the item from being live.
Only thing that should change status of item to 'sold' is payment.

·2 years agoThe thing about offers I have ALWAYS had beef with is how a buyer can use them to not only get a better deal but then also hold the item HOSTAGE where nobody else can get it or even see it, with no deposit or even a polite message saying when they'll pay. That's the "thanks" you get for agreeing to a deal? -No, most buyers don't do that, but when they do it makes me sick and they often end up back-end problem buyers too (complain about shipping time, complain about the item, etc.).
For the life of me, I couldn't understand why eBay couldn't just treat an accepted offer like an item in the buyer's CART. Like at the offer price ... but not SOLD until they pay! That way they could just not pay if they change their mind, not get a buyer strike, but not keep the item invisible for 4 days either!
Unfortunately ..... the ways eBay is attempting to solve the problem is just creating new ones. Hopefully when it's all ironed out it will be the fair deal you and I both want.

·2 years agoI wonder what happens if the seller decides to end the listing at this point. Do they earn defect?
gurlcat
·2 years agoNo a seller can end any item listing that hasn't been paid for yet. BIN, auction (even with bids), offer-accepted, doesn't matter. It's still YOUR item until someone has paid for it.

·2 years agoFinally this makes sense......i saw the announcement that ebay will make it so it becomes the first person to PAY and not just accept offers...... That made no sense until now.
What a complete and screwbally way to fix the "unpaid item" issue! This is obviously causing more confusion and problems then the occasional unpaid item case! I agree that this is confusing to buyers- if i accept their offer it should let them know its a done deal- NOT tell them i am sending them another offer!!
Typical of ebay to make a problem worse by trying to fix it..... or should i say make 3 new problems trying to fix one

OP2 years agoWhat Ebay is missing in this whole MESS is the fact that most of us Sellers do not manage the business form the Ebay Message inbox. I'm selling 1000 items a month. Between order notifications, payment notifications and shipping notifications, that is 3000 emails a month. I don't go to the inbox to see which offers have been accepted or sent or are pending. I use the main dashboard screen and regularly look at the # of items awaiting to be paid. That is what a business manager does. At the very minimum, Ebay needs to bring that information back to the screen so we can see what the heck is "Pending" payment. If the item is still listed, fine, I get that. As sellers, we should still be able to send that buyer a reminder on their offer being accepted. Surely these "Smart" people can figure out a way to do that and help the sellers out there that are pulling out their hair over this issue.

·2 years agodon't understand -I thought an acceptance of an offer was a sale. If a seller cancels a sale util 4 days later waiting for payment they get a defect

@ryanrobyn
Apparently, not anymore. New "rollout" i.e. enhancement, improvement, intended change etc. that looks like a glitch. As a seller, you can "accept" as many offers as you like for the same product. Buyers will no longer be "auto-billed" if you retained those preferences.
The instead of the BUYER receiving a notice that you accepted their offer, they get a screen that says YOU HAVE RECIEVED an offer. They can pay (at full shipping price with no option to combine multiple items), not pay, decline, ignore it. Your listing will remain live, until somebody pays. There is no "accept" button displayed to the buyer.
Buyers that actually thought if you 'accepted' their offer it was some sort of commitment to them that you agreed to sell it to them are finding out that is no longer the case.
This new procedure has only been documented for a few days. The only information we have is by other members sharing experiences and screenshots. eBay is not talking, just doing.

·2 years agoWhat a confusing issue.
So are you saying that the sellers who have unchecked that a prepayment method is required for an offer are not seeing this happen?
Is this only happening when there is a counteroffer?
I realize this is probably explained above but I'm having a hard wrapping my brain around it.

·2 years agoSo are you saying that the sellers who have unchecked that a prepayment method is required for an offer are not seeing this happen?
@pjcdn2005
Not quite. When the reports started coming in regarding this rather wonky procedure, I was under the impression is was a function of the Buyer Requirements eBay placed on sellers accounts to "require a payment source in order to make an offer". Those resulted to the buyer being auto-billed, and the seller getting an immediate payment upon acceptance....OR the buyers refused to participate after they knew of the unsavory consequences for doing so.
THEN fast forward offers accepted by sellers were changed to (renamed) transactions where the SELLER appeared to be making an offer when they did no such thing. Since those Buyer requirements that remained in the DEFAULT to YES were resulting in auto-billing for buyers who complied (they did not have a choice if they wished to proceed) I thought that if such sellers changed the preference to NO it might absolve them in participating in this new wacked out procedure as well.
Many sellers who dispensed with the requirements already started to post that the new Accepting a buyer's offer and watching it morph in to a new "You sent an offer" happened anyway regardless of their settings in the Buyer Requirements.
I hope this helps answer your question.

·2 years agoHa, SAME HERE. And I'm also wondering 'how do seller-initiated offers work now?' since this thing seems to turn buyer-initiated ones into seller-initiated ones .... or ... something.
Also what happens if a seller has a Best Offer auto-ACCEPT amount set for the item and a buyer makes an offer of at least that amount .... does the seller even see that it happened??
And then there's the fact that it's obviously only partially rolled out, and probably glitching too (cuz it wouldn't be eBay if it wasn't).
And I'm honestly not even interested in TRYING to understand it yet, just waiting for it to all settle out.

@gurlcat
I got some yesterday, three from the same seller. Generally, when shopping I put items on my watch list to study more closely later. There is was no "accept" button for the buyer, only checkout or decline. There was no option for making a counter offer (which may be a seller setting). With no accept button, there is no way for the products to 'go into a cart and request total'. They would have to be paid separately, but my payment sources were not limited like they are when a buyer is forced to put up a payment source in order make an offer or bid. The particular seller has rather high shipping $10.65 each for a jewelry piece, so had I paid for all three pieces of jewelry shipping would have been $31.95.
Only one of the three had a 'decent' offer anyway so I purchased that one, where had I been able to combine I would have bought all of them. Seller missed out on a couple of hundred dollars.

·2 years agoSo now I'm wondering if that's the case for ALL seller-initiated offers now. I send them pretty regularly, and I do seem to be having fewer takers as of late. And that's not something that has a seller preference option, unlike the buyer-initiated and auction payments. So I just wonder if it's another roll-out-in-batches thing, or all sellers overnight, sometime a while back.
I sell mostly jewelry too (vintage), but I've had only occasional multi-listing buyers for some reason, probably mostly because I just never have a ton listed at once (I think about 45 listings right now, and 10-15% of those are other categories). So the auto-pay drama hasn't worried me too much on that front, although I do have it switched 'off' for those 2 formats where it's optional, because I know the payment forms accepted are very limited and I know some people are just offended by change, period.
But let me ask you this -would you not trust a seller to combine a multi-item purchase and refund you the overage amount, if they agreed to ahead of time? That's what I've done for lots of buyers whenever the situation didn't allow me to invoice them, and I do it as soon as I hear the notification that they paid. If you had written to that ^ seller before accepting any of her offers, I bet she would have agreed to do the combining "manually" like that. You wouldn't risk anything by asking.

·2 years ago-would you not trust a seller to combine a multi-item purchase and refund you the overage amount, if they agreed to ahead of time?
@gurlcat
I suppose my answer would be "maybe". The particular seller mentioned above, I would not due to past experiences with that member. They do often have quality products, have 'learned' to send a combined invoice, but do not discount the shipping. Since they are rather "new" I don't really know if they are clueless or just playing 'dumb'.
The screen I was presented with NO "accept" feature for the seller generated offer, looks like the same one a buyer gets when the buyer generate an offer (and the seller accepts) that morphs into a YOU SENT AN OFFER, and the buyer receives instead of "your offer was accepted", they get YOU HAVE AN OFFER. No 'accept' feature, no invoicing, no combining items. The buttons are 'decline' or 'check out' as well. Though the product will remain for sale until "somebody" buys it, nobody is required to buy it at all, so it doesn't do much for the non-paying buyer issue for those who make offers to the seller. Now they can do it all they like and don't have to pay. (Next time I will post a screen shot of a seller generated offer when I get one).
Keep in mind this is the only seller generated offers I have seen so far (sent to me) since the new "enhancement, test, intended change, improvement that looks like a glitch" (LOL, got to find a shorter name for this) has been discussed here. I do not make offers on those who retain the buyer requirement to require a payment source upfront.
With this new feature, retaining the preference no longer insures a seller will be paid, no more auto-billing for accepted offers, and buyers who make such offers are no longer required to pay at all. Requiring a buyer to put up a payment source in order to make an offer is still effective in discouraging PAYING buyers who do not wish to comply.
I just put the stuff on my watchlist and wait for the offers to "roll in"....many are for way less than my offer would have been had I not used my back button when the 'auto-pay" screen was presented, but since they all have to be paid in full regardless it has diminished my enthusiasm for accepting multiple offers from the same seller as well.

·2 years agoI guess I just don't understand why ANY business would be doing 'offers'.
Offers are designed for the closet cleaner or at Garage Sales or Swap Meets.
You cannot go into most typical B/M stores and 'make an offer'?
If you are a business doing 1000's of TXs a month- do Buy It Now, Immediate Payment required and be done.
Spend your time making sure you are the 'lowest' price and then offers won't matter?

·2 years agoI have had this happen to me 3 times in the last couple of weeks, and I only sell about 5 items a day. Every time it has happened to me, the item ended up marked as sold about half a day after acceptance to the same buyer I accepted the offer from. Sometimes when I accept an offer, it makes it look like I sent the offer instead and am waiting for the buyer to accept, even though the price is exactly the same as the offer they sent. I'm not sure what the buyer sees on their end, and I have an item this happened to this morning so I hope it all works out like the previous few have. I honestly wasn't sure if this was happening to other people until I saw this post so I'm glad I am not the only one. I never considered reaching out to eBay. I am welcome to any advice as well, hope somebody figures it out!

·2 years agoI’ve not experienced this as a buyer or seller, so if your fix was to relist and send new number to buyer to purchase, why were they not able to just pay from the initial accepted offer to begin with?
