Non payment Cancellation
I placed a watch for sale. Almost immediately, an offer was made. I asked the buyer for payment several times over the course of 4 days. The buyer never responded, and eBay could not tell me anything about the buyer. I finally cancelled the item. eBay could not relist the item. This process has been very disconcerting. What did I do wrong

·8 months agoThere was nothing to relist....if payment wasn't made nothing was sold and the item remained live until paid. An offer and acceptance, unless you require immediate payment is not sale.
Was this offer made outside of ebay, and then you removed the listing? Now you are trying to put it back up on eBay?

OP8 months agoThanks for all of your thoughts. As it turns out, I spoke to customer service, and they have decided it is a technical issue. It will take them a day or two to figure out what is wrong. When I find out, I will share with all of you.

I don't mean to be Robert Raincloud here, but depending on who it was in "Customer Service" that you talked with, they often lie to you or tell you anything just to get you off the phone. Saying it is a "technical issue" is a tip-off that you may not be getting told the truth. So don't necessarily trust that it will "take them a day or two to figure out what is wrong".
In what manner did you contact CS?

@sunset100
Another nuance... every invoice you send resets the buyer's 96-hour payment window.

Thanks! I forgot about that part when assuming it was an actual sale transaction.

You mentioned "the buyer"... Was a purchase transaction actually made, or was it simply an offer?
If a sale was actually made, what reason did you give for cancelling the transaction?
If the "buyer" actually made a sale and didn't pay for 4 days, on day 5 you should have cancelled it with the reason "Buyer did not pay". Did you do use that reason?
If it was just an offer from the buyer and not an actual sale, the item is still up for grabs by any other buyer. No action was needed on your part. You should have just sit and waited if you entertained the offer. If you weren't able to relist it, being only an offer situation could be the reason, and eBay doesn't allow duplicate listings when trying to relist.
More clarity is needed, my friend.

·8 months agoDid you file a non payment case? That is how you handle non payment. I don't see that you made a sale. How long ago was it? Did you accept the offer?
To avoid that you can set your listings to require payment right away. Then if a buyer makes an offer, the payment is set up and you get paid as soon as you accept the offer. That also works for buy in now or auctions. The payment is processed as soon as the sale is made. That will prevent a lot of non payment issues.
