no traffic on a good listing
I have several items that have zero traffic and one is a very popular item. Wondering why and maybe eBay isn't as good a site to sell on as it has been. My recent item is a brand new handmade crocheted KC Chiefs hat and you would think someone would at least look at it, but I checked and zero traffic. What's the deal?

·3 years agoYou can. I was about to go find it, but I see @nobody*s_perfect was kind enough to do it, thank you. I'm not going to argue this, people will believe what they want to believe.

·3 years agoIt's not illegal. Check out Tabberone's website for answers to many of these types of questions that have been proven in court repeatedly. She's a legend for having fought numerous VERO's & won all of them & she's not even a laywer.
This design isn't even using the logo. But even if you buy fabric with the actual logo & make your own items & sell them, it's not illegal.

·3 years agoThat is incorrect. You can buy licensed fabric for your own use. You cannot use it to make items for sale. This is not a maybe yes maybe no deal.

·3 years agoThis has become a silly argument. There is no way the NFL is going to pursue a claim that using NFL licensed fabric to make a few handcrafted items is a copyright violation - ONLY MASS PRODUCED ITEMS WERE A CONCERN.
Long before ebay was born - my mother and aunts made many unique handcrafted items from NFL fabric which they both gave as gifts and sold at craft shows as did other crafters. Some were even auctioned off at charity events supported by the Washington Redskins and one - a Redskins/Cowboys magazine rack - was purchased by a Cowboys executive. And yes, I've sold some of their handcrafted sports items on ebay for the past 20 years - never claiming that they are officially licensed products.
On an illegal activity scale this doesn't even make the list.

·3 years agoTabberone's advice is for those reselling items they own. Like if you buy a van load of licensed products at a sale. You can sell those because they are real and you own them.
Disney was one of the bullies of the licensed products that got cut down when trying to stop everyone and anyone from selling Disney items owned by that seller. They continue to be successful in stopping people from making things from licensed products and selling those because that cannot be done.

·3 years agoI think you have misread Tabberone's main point: under the first sale doctrine, you CAN use licensed fabric to make items for resale, as long as you are clear that the item itself is handmade.

However, a hand-crocheted item is a different situation, and the question would be whether they are using the KC Chiefs' logo, name, or other trademark without permission. The VeRO protectors of the trademarks for Velcro and Gerber "Onesies" do go after individual listings.

·3 years agoYou chose a very odd category. A hat is not "specialty clothing" even if it's hand made. Do some research into whether you can legally sell the hat and call it Chiefs when you're using their colors and embroidering a KC on it when you don't have a licensing agreement.
You listed fingerless gloves where one picture looks purple and red, the other picture looks pink and red, but the actual colors are not stated anywhere in the title or description.
My advice for any items you sell is to look at the most basic info a buyer needs to know and change your titles as a first step to getting more views.

·3 years agoI've been selling sports stuff on ebay for many years - some handmade. Each year for the past three years sales have declined and are now almost non-existent. The problem as I see it is that ebay's search algorithm has increasingly manipulated what a buyer sees paying less attention to keywords buyers use, and if they do happen to click on your listing there will be a multitude of other items attached to your listing. The constant shipping increases have not helped.

·3 years agoEdit the title and write Kansas City . Maybe add football to get football fans to your listing. If you do not have room , remove AND Free shipping. Get rid of the dashes = . Goodluck.

·3 years agoI am thinking your item can not legally be sold unless the KC Chiefs gave you a license to do so.
You can't use their name on a product they did not approve for you to sell.
You can make handmade products, such as the hat, for personal use........not for resale..

·3 years agoI seriously doubt that selling used or handmade sports merchandise requires a license from the KC Chiefs or any sports team. Sports licensing violations usually apply to mass produced items or falsely claiming items are officially licensed. There is a big difference between the KC Chiefs and Louis Vuitton.

·3 years agoEbay has hit the level of Webstore, Ebid and Bonanza; absolutely no traffic or sales (but they'll take your fees). Ebay severely manipulates its algorithms (which is why sellers who don't have the item you're searching for will show up in results). They are intentionally hurting sellers. Tale after tale of great, steady sales and then poof! No sales or views. It's malicious and worse than it's ever been.

·3 years agoYour items are lovely, but I have 1 similar item that's been listed on/off for 6 years. One of my few attempts at selling something like that & I didn't make it & I can tell you it's close to my oldest item & gets no interest, even at rock bottom pricing. IDK why & since it's not what I normally sell, I haven't analyzed it, but you're not alone.

·3 years agoHi, i took a look at your listings, and you have some gorgeous crocheted items, wow!
Selling handmade is awesome, but it is also difficult on a brand-centric platform like eBay, to attract eyes to one’s listing. There are fewer defining keywords in unbranded goods. When i search for “handmade crocheted afghan†i get 18,000+ results.
So i would concentrate on other descriptors to include in the titles. Things like style, color, design, size, embellishments, etc become more important because that is how a shopper will narrow down search results.
Take for example your listing entitled “New Handmade Crocheted Afghan Throw - One of a kind design - Free Shippingâ€. I would suggest adding more related keywords and change the title to something along the lines of “Handmade Crocheted Afghan Throw Blanket Granny Square 52†Multicolor Washableâ€. This may be a bit long, but just wanted to give you an idea of how you can use keywords to describe your goods more aptly in order to attract more shoppers.
Given that i am not a crocheting expert like you are, you’ll know better what the name of the designs are and be able to better provide which keywords best describe the item. Keywords will draw in the traffic needed to make a sale, so i suggest you tweak your titles to include more details that directly relate to the item, and drop those words that do not.
Words like “free shippingâ€, “slashed price†or “made in the Ozarks†may be more appropriate to include in the description field. For the title, there may be other more important keywords that customers will choose when searching.
For example, in your incense listings, the word “incense†does not even appear in some of the titles. When i first saw one in your completed listings, my initial thought was that you were selling cookies because it says “Sugar Cookie (Yummy) - Double Dipped 100 Long Burning Sticks - Ship Freeâ€.
Your listings show a solid effort and your items are stellar. Wish you much success moving forward.

·3 years ago@scenterone2004 No, eBay is not what it use to be. I think home made items are more popular on Et__
I love your kitten. Is she Siamese?

OP3 years agoI'm trying Etsy and have sold a couple of afghans and some to friends. Mine are so much cheaper than others, but I love to crochet and during the Pandemic crocheted for hours when our business had to close. Still do crochet while I watch TV. Hate to just sit and have idle hands. The other hands are petting my 8 indoor kitties. The one you see here was one I drove 2 hours to meet a person who also drove two hours since her husband wouldn't let her keep it. Her name is Luna and she's probably just a domestic cat but looks like a Lynx Point Siamese and she is so loving, sleeps with me at night. I'm on facebook at Sharon Cataldo Letson and have many pages on my work, candle business and rescue efforts over my 76 years. I'm really an old hippie, granny at heart, lol. Love people and they love me. Peace, Love and Light! Stay well and thanks for your reply.

·3 years agoWhat you believe the demand for a handmade item is may not necessarily be what really is in demand. Most people now days wan the real deal.

January tends to be a slow month for non essentials. I looked at the hat and what a great job you did! Hopefully when they beat the Bengals next week, you'll have sales galore. GO CHIEFS! And PS pray Pat's ankle heals!
Happy Selling from KC. 😉

OP3 years agothat reply warmed my heart and brought a smile to my face. I had a small Chiefs dog hat in my flea market booth and it sold. It was really cute, but had been online for a long time and no one bought it. All my crocheted items are handmade and new and made exclusively by myself. I love watching the Chiefs, hearing Mahomes yelling out on the field and crocheting while I watch. Not actually a big football fan, but the Chiefs I do love. Worried about Buffalo catching up since I'm from Rochester, NY originally and most of my family there, I'm sure are Buffalo fans, lol. Have a great day and thanks for cheering me up.

I have family in Buffalo on my dad's side. My cousin was a nurse at Strong Memorial for years. Now she's back in Tonawanda. I wanted to see the Bills win yesterday, but that game was so sloppy. Better weather conditions would have proved a better outcome.
Oh well, next Sunday stay tuned and GO CHIEFS!! Thanks for your kind reply. Good luck with sales.

OP3 years agosmall world isn't it? Love having friends like you and I have many on facebook. All are either from knowing them,or having similar interests such as dog and cat rescue and other interests. Good to meet you. Stay well.

·3 years agoAnd do you have the KC Chiefs permission to sell a handmade item using the logo?
I find this kind of thing amazing. You are asking for a VERO take down. You are producing counterfeit goods. What part of copyright completely eludes people?
susanb1872
·3 years agoI'm not sure if there is a trademark issue. The hat is just marked "KC" for Kansas City. I can't see the back of the hat but if the back has "Chiefs" then there is a problem.
pargran3
·3 years agoThe listing has Chiefs in the title. Logo or not it is being sold as a Chiefs cap.
susanb1872
·3 years agoGood point and I agree. "Chiefs" should not be in the title.
scenterone2004
OP3 years agoI'd sell it for less to a fan who doesn't have a lot of money. The shipping is almost $6.00 alone so I think I'll reduce the price and pray they win, yay.

·3 years agoNice of you to want to provide something for those financially challenged that cannot afford the real deal.
It is still illegal of course.
