After being in the doldrums this month I had a great Sunday thanks to auctions ending and running a sale. One guy added 2 orders to his auction wins. Several more out of the store. I give Ebay a lot of credit for supplying strategies and tricks (like combining) to help us get sales.
I had a sale today and then the customer messaged asking to cancel - he paid for something else to a different seller while this card was also in the cart and apparently everything in the cart for all sellers gets paid at once?

Yes unless you use the prompts to "Pay this seller only" (which is in pretty small writing if I recall). They probably didn't see it.
I"m in an existential funk over what I think are nice books that aren't selling. Obscure or academic books OK, I get it. I've started repricing but no results from that yet. I also started a new sale and immediately sold books from that which I welcome in this desert time. In the past January was always good for selling books but not so far this year.
If I have no sales it's because nobody wants to buy my stuff, no other reason.
How about the effect of needs vs wants on merchandise sales
January is usually a good month for those of us who sell wants. It marks the end of our Christmas season drought. But this is not a normal year for some of us. I had a much better holiday selling season than any time I can remember - nothing giftable, and January has been darned good with some extremely long time listed items selling.
There are at least some people who find more money in their pockets and are bent on spending it.

Not waiting for new laws. The standard deduction was revised up. There is a special extra deduction for over 65 yos. Tax brackets were indexed for inflation. Lots of new goodies to be found if you read the 1040 Instructions.
I am pretty sure most people have not read the instructions, have not heard of the changes and many will be surprised by what they get back. Not the least of them will be the folks who take their W-2s and 1099s to H & R Block or other cheap tax preparers.
Yes! I had to walk for some groceries, too, before a bad, windy cold snap starts tomorrow. At least 8 days long. Groceries won't last that long. lol
It's debatable whether walking or driving is better in my city this week (I live an hour away from @sakic92710 ).
I drove to Stallion to drop of parcels and got stuck at the stop sign a few blocks from where I dropped them off, someone had to push me through the intersection. But I almost fell on my rear getting out of the car to see what was going on with the tires and no traction, it was very slippery. So slip and fall, or get stuck driving, I say it's better to stay home. My cupboard is always ignored but there's food in there I can prepare. I tend to eat stuff that goes in the fridge, the cupboard is for emergencies when I don't want to go out.
Yes we were right on the edge of a "Prepare to evacuate" zone a back in 2024. I loaded all our valuables small enough into our vehicles and were ready to go. I could see smoke roiling up just beyond a close ridge to the North of us. I stayed up all night that night.
There's a telephone/power pole on a slope on the other end of our property. One day doing my annual spring noxious weed patrol I noticed that it had burn marks up to about 9 feet up. I guess there was a range fire down there at one time. At first I thought it was settled creasote but upon a closer look, burnt.
Lots of dry grass and sage around here at the base of the Cascade mountain range.
My fire pit is propane. All other heat sources outdoors on our property are either electric of propane. Every year some careless person(s) start a wild fire with sparks from burning. It won't be me.....................
I've lived most of my life in the chilly, wet Pac NW. One of the stranger experiences I've had was lining up at the start line for the Honolulu Marathon...5:00 am, pitch dark, December...74 degrees. 😳 It doesn't always get that warm here some summers!
You should come here if you need the best physical therapist in The United States.
🇺🇸
After my injury of 12 years ago (I was in the hospital for 3 1/2 months) my doctor said that I had to go to out patient physical therapy with 1 particular person or I had to get another doctor! I was violently angry that I had to go so far away from my apartment just to get pt but within the first 5 minutes of my being there at her premises I was able to understand that she was a genius pt.
She is a physical therapist for the U. S. Olympic team and travels with them. I imagine that the U.S. Olympic team hires the best pt in America.🇺🇸
Have been there4 times in my life and my clearest memories are the traffic and a luncheon at a top shelf hamburger restaurant where the burgers and fries were $35 buck + tip in 1976.

@inhawaii Here is to a week full of sales for you...and me. I had one Friday afternoon just before I left for USPS, so I packed it and it went out. It has been quiet the rest of the day.
There is a tenant on my floor in New York City I’m not close to her at all just barely saying hello.

Still don’t interact with her much at all except once she told me her daughter is a doctor.

A housecoat (bathrobe in Canada) is very comfortable to wear to keep warm. Even when it's 70F in my house it feels cold if it's really cold outside. I do wear normal clothes underneath my housecoat though. It's nice and fuzzy warm.
At my day job (in an office building) we have a pretty lax dress code (like running shoes, jeans, sweat pants, yoga pants, tshirts are all allowed). I tend to dress up if I work in the shop for the day because all the girls there are dressed in nice clothes and customers see them. I have a couple of preferred dresses to wear to the shop, even though I spend most of my time in the backroom packaging coins.

Yes I remember spending a winter in Alberta. Even with the room temperature comfortable all the outside walls of the house were frozen. If you licked your finger and touched it to an outside facing wall (on the inside) your finger would stick.

The upside is that I turned to self employment during subsequent summers and could put in a 12-14 hour work day and still have lots of daylight to fish or whatever. Never spent another winter there again retreating to the desert SW for my self employed work during winter...................

There's a few full time staff and all sorts of friends and family (that are retired or not otherwise employed, or people like me that come in a few days a month). We don't deal only in coins, we have antiques, silverware, dishes, stamps, banknotes, military medals, antique toys, tokens, postcards... I just don't sell a lot of it here because it's big and takes up too much space, and is a pain to ship.
So I guess there's 10 people there on any given day, but only three people actually work there, the rest of us are helping out or there for some other purpose (I'm there to hunt for stuff to put on eBay, that's my reason for going in, I have no other reason to work there except for the eBay store). We all share the few desks that are there, so there is no "my desk" at the shop, one guy's desk on Monday's is someone else's desk on Wednesdays, and since I don't have a day of the week I get whatever desk is unoccupied (or the lunchroom table).
I am neon green with envy, that sounds SO fun!! I did eBay consignment with a local vintage pop store for a while, but so much of the details turned out less than ideal so once his sales recovered from the pandemic slump, I politely bowed out, ha.

We don't sell online, it's in shop or at local shows (like renting a table at the stamp show outside Toronto, stuff like that).
I met a guy at my gym in 2010 and ran my mouth about how much I could sell coins for on eBay, he tracked me down and asked if I'd sell their stuff for them (because they aren't doing eBay). It started with 99 cent auctions and junk, and as time progressed I got better stuff. I've got my own shelves to store anything I can't bring home (until it's sold and time to ship). There's an intake box where stuff I'm supposed to sell gets put, and other people working there know about it and random items get slipped in (when someone finds something they want me to sell). I get to approve or disapprove the item before I list it.
