No payment from buyer
I don't do much selling, so this might be petty to some. I recently sold an item for $150+/-. I contacted the buyer several times in the following days but no reply. I then looked at their profile and current activity. I found that he had an item for sale, and I contacted him with a question as a potential buyer. He obviously didn't recognize my user name because he replied right away with an answer. I then replied back and disclosed who I was and that I was awaiting his long overdue reply and payment. Realizing they were caught red handed, they failed to respond AGAIN. After two more attempts requesting payment, they finally got back to me with an answer of "I'm broke". I never heard from them again.
I figured Ebay would have my back as they boast seller security, but instead relisted my item automatically even though I didn't officially cancel the original transaction. The item then sold, but for $35 less. How does ebay help me out? The other party should be banned for blatant disregard to policy.

Sorry for your frustration. Lots of kiddies on the playground out there in internet land. After 4 days if the buyer doesn't pay, cancel the sale on day 5 citing they bidder didn't pay and then block them.
You may want to reconsider using the auction style listings to avoid this type of behavior. Use a fixed price, buy it now, immediate payment required checked off and NO best offers. You obviously know what your inventory is worth, set the price you want and let it go from there. Make sure you set up your seller preferences so that the bidders must have a payment method on file to pay & to accept returns should you have one. Remember whether you sell a little or a lot, you are here to make money, not to chase it.
Good luck and Happy Selling

·2 years agoWhoa, way too much game playing going on here. All this back and forth gives eBay's computers something to chew on. It did not end well for you, it would seem.
FWIW my practice is to never initiate communication with a buyer.
If they don't pay, just block them. Problem solved.

·2 years agoBest to look at this situation in a positive manner. Buyer could have paid you for the item and once received they could simply have opened a NAD return claim with eBay and you would have been suck with the cost of the return postage, if you wanted it back, and eBay would have retained their FVF's.
The could have also have opened a NAD chargeback with their CC company. If you accepted the dispute the buyer would have been fully refunded, eBay would have retained their FVF's and the buyer most likely would have been allowed to keep the item. If you disputed the claim most likely you would have lost and all the above would apply plus you would have gotten hit with a $20 CC chargeback processing fee.
In this case maybe it is best to be thankful that the buyer didn't pay.

eBay is a buyer-centric platform. They will not place a seller’s security above that of a buyer. Sellers must protect their own interests, and knowing both how the platform works, and what the numerous policies are, is a primary requirement for success here.
Buyers do not lose their eBay membership over a failure to pay. They will, however, be restricted from buying and bidding (once they collect 2 or more non-payment strikes on their accounts) from savvy sellers who have set up their Buyer Requirements to block serial non-payers.
Wait 96 hours you can cancel the sale for nonpayment, you will recoup your fees and you can relist.
It is not necessary to hound a buyer to pay, they receive payment reminders from eBay.
When you cancel for nonpayment, the buyer gets a nonpayment buyer strike against their buyer account. 2 of those in 12 months will get that buyer blocked from bidding and buying.
