no notification of sale
I just wrapped up my first sale on ebay. The first notification of the sale was for the customer wondering when the product would be shipped. I thought I should get an email notification of the sale so that I could ship it as soon as possible. I've looked all over ebay and couldn't see any setting or anything that could be wrong that would have prevented me from getting a notice of sale. What should I do next?

·2 years agoNotifications are not working for sold items. You have to go to sold items and look every time. The emails are slow coming but the bell in the upper right corner just opens to a blank box. The bell shows no notifications so I constantly have to go to sold items page. My sales have been showing up on my phone and that is the only notification I have now. Just more eBay work arounds making it as hard as possible for sellers.

·2 years agoAll eBays emails were in my spam at first.
Had to whitelist and make priority for everything coming from eBay.
Can't name a single time I haven't gotten an email.

·2 years agoLook in Payments" ..."processing" and "available funds". You see nothing you sold nothing.

·2 years agoWhen I was a new seller, long, long ago and with a different ID, I was so eager to get my first few sales that I checked at least once a day, and often several times per day.
Waiting for notification from eBay can be the beginning of a career that ends before it took off.

·2 years agoAre you speaking of the Scoutmasters books? eBay shows they were sold on August 3, two weeks ago.
All eBay buyers are expected to pay through eBay. When their payments clear, the eBay seller is sent a message, via eBay's messaging system, saying the buyer has paid and the time to send is NOW. That message will also give you the address to which you should send the item.
You should look in your eBay Messages. If eBay told you 14 days ago that you need to mail the books at that time, you are in some trouble now.
Oh, another thing new eBay sellers often need to be reminded about:
Never, ever, NEVER send your "sold" item to its "buyer" before eBay tells you it is OK to mail it.
That's a good way not to get paid, ever, plus you lose the item so you don't have another chance to try to sell it.
@monroe67
I’ve never received any messages that an item has sold not in the past 2-3 years.

You know what -- you are right, and I was mistaken! (I.e., just plain wrong!) I assumed my memory was accurate but it wasn't!
As I've mentioned before, my user name here is my high school and the year I graduated. So anyone who wants to do the math can get an idea of my now-advanced age.
eBay does require (as I recall!!) that every user provide an e-mail address when they register. And each separate eBay ID that any one person has requires a separate e-mail. So, for example, an e-mail address through your internet provider and a free gmail account, through Google. So I looked at my e-mail connected to my selling ID, and that is where eBay sends my notices when an item is sold.
Hoping to help the OP and others, the subject line of those e-mails is "You made the sale for [title of listing]!" The sender of those e-mails, BTW, is "ebay@ebay.com".

·2 years agoNo it's the little notification bell in the upper right hand corner . Supposed to notify you every time you have a sale or a message. It has quit working. Doesn't show aything now at all. When you click on it to check it just opens a blank white box. I sell a lot and it is causing me problems.

·2 years agoIf you are "selling a lot" would you not be visiting the Seller Hub on a regular basis?

Holy Moly, I didn't realize the long time posters here were so old...joking. But, I really didn't know the Khoros mainstays were an older crowd...or, better to call it an experienced crowd. I thought you guys, and gals were younger for some unknown reason. I'm so surprised at the moment.
greatmidwesterncoin posted today that he's 66 years old...
Its nice of you and the others to help out here.

OP2 years agoYeah, I added the listing and got no response for 2 or 3 months, so I didn't check anything. But then it sold. As with everything in this world, lack of communication is going to be the downfall of us all. By now, Ebay should do a better job of it.

·2 years agoNo, as a seller with items listed, you should do a better job of it, its your business.

OP2 years agoI understand that...I have owned two brick-and-mortar companies and am fully aware of what it takes to provide good customer service. The problem was that ebay either didn't explain their system well enough, or if they say they offer sales notifications, they should function correctly...every time. What's the sense of having these systems if they are not reliable.

·2 years agoSometimes legit emails get caught by spam filters. Sometimes things don't go through properly on the email provider's end.
Two cases of these exact things that I've encountered in the past day alone:
On one email address, my spam filter put a very important legitimate email into spam.
On the other, I was trying to sign up for tracking alerts for a package and it took three attempts to get it to go through and actually send me the email.

Never rely on eMail notices of a sale.
They can be delayed, go to spam folder or be faked by a buyer trying to scam a new seller.
Always go to your seller hub frequently to check for sales.
You could check in your account settings to see if your communication preferences are set to receive notifications under Selling Activity.

·2 years agoYou should be checking the seller hub at least once a day to see if you have sold anything.
Email is not error free and sold message could be lost in your Spam folder.
There are people who send false messages telling you that you made a sale, and unless you see the sale in your seller hub, you should ignore those messages.

·2 years agoFor the OP:
The first thing I do when I log in to ebay is to check seller hub. I check for sales, messages, problems, or any other potential issues that might show up. Like INR or SNAD notices.
Depending on anybody else (Ebay for instance) to notify you thru email of a sale, is a sure way to get disappointed.

·2 years agoDo not rely on emails for your eBay business. They can be unreliable. Always check your Seller Hub. Any sales and items awaiting shipment will be indicated there.
