New Seller--Buyer didn't pay 12 hours after auction ended

    Hello community,

I just did my first sale.  Auction ended 12 hours ago.  Bidder was very responsive before auction ended.  Since I haven't received payment yet, so I sent an email asking if the buyer changed their mind so I can offer to 2nd chance bidder.

Usually how long does it take for buyer to make payment?  How long do they have to pay before I can raise the issue to ebay?  Does ebay do anything if I raise the issue that buyer doesn't pay after winning auction?

    Thank you!

@realtypro8885  If your last 2 posts are genuine and this buyer does not pay, cancel citing Buyer did not pay!

Then, remove the listing, give all 3 units back to your friend and let them deal with it. No disrespect, but you are so far out of your depth my head is spinning, and this is going to be a trainwreck.

I almost exclusively do my purchases via auctions:

Reasons I don't pay right away (not all apply to OPs situation):

    -I'm busy (busy wasting time)

-I'm sleeping (I do this quite regularly)

-I'm lazy (This is quite true)

    -I forgot (I don't remember forgetting 🤔)

-I need to hop on my computer in order to use my cash-back service (log into 3rd party site, then navigate to EBay, and pay to get extra cash back from 3rd party).

-I'm bidding on other items from seller (to combine ship and save myself money)

-I'm bidding on other items from seller (all are free ship, so I save nothing but I like this seller so I'll help them save money on shipping/fees)

    -I'm waiting for an invoice

-Seller (pre-maturely) sent me an invoice [serious pet peeve of mine] and am waiting for a new one to include more items.

Some buyers wait for pay day or need to transfer funds prior to making payments...

12 hrs having passed just means you need to wait another 84 hours before you're allowed to be concerned or take action.

Last unrelated note ... sellers who message me w/in 24hrs asking for payment seriously irk me. Especially when they make a big deal about "I'm trying to ship everything right now and I can't ship until you pay". Sorry you feel that you're entitled to immediate payment to make your shipping schedule more convenient for you. You need to get over yourself. You will ship within your stated handling time after you've received my payment, clearly I don't care when you ship if I haven't paid yet, I'm obviously in no rush.

and I have no issue with any of that, but.....................................  as we know eBay is working diligently at removing the  "seller angst" in such situations even at the expense of lost sales for the seller, and lost fees for eBay.

We know the "intent" is good, but the way it is working out is suspect

the diligent work to remove "angst" over delayed/non payment is only creating serious angst over lack/loss of sales!

Like i've said before and will say again, the pre-authorized payment ought to be a "penalty box" program for those who habitually don't pay. They can stay in it for set periods of time depending on the number of unpaid offenses they've racked up...

We have the ability to block buyers with X number of UPI's within X time ... I think that's completely ridiculous. Just force buyers w/ UPI's into IPR or pre-authorized payment. You won't sell to someone because they don't pay? Instead, sell to them but force an Immediate Payment! Their $$ is as green as everyone else's, just ensure you'll get your hands on it.

Slow or non paying buyers are a bit like bird poop on a trampoline.  It can't always be avoided.  You can however list as fixed price / buy it now set to require payment right away.  In that case no sale is made until the buyer has paid.  That solves a lot of payment issues.

If you file and close a non payment case you will get your selling fee refunded.

Sure it can be avoided. Looks like you need one of these?

Buyers get 4 days to pay.  If they don't pay by day 5, cancel the sale citing non payment and then block this person.  If you want to avoid this in the future, stop with auction style listings and just use a fixed, buy it now price, immediate payment required and NO best offers.  You obviously know what your items are worth, just ask for that price and go from there.

Welcome to eBay.  Wishing Happy Sales and Holidays.

Twelve hours? Way too soon to go looking for problems.

Every circumstance is different. I had a buyer take a week to pay recently. I didn't send invoices or rush to file for non-payment, because he had a lot of feedback as a buyer, and it was an item with a small base of potential buyers. He finally paid without any explanation for the delay.

Something doesn't look right. OP has exactly the same item (same picture) just listed for sale.

NVM, picture is of two items, listing for one item. That's not a good idea in itself though.

Apparently there were two examples of that item to start with. This previous thread by the OP will explain how we got to this point:

Buyer won an auction 12 hours ago? The timestamp on the OP post is 4:15 AM (I assume PST as always).

Seller is in Los Angeles,  don't know where the buyer is.  Maybe the buyer  was travelling for the holiday? Sleeping? Do you think if he has the Ebay app he was just waiting to pay? Maybe they figure on a holiday weekend, wait to pay for Friday shipping? Maybe no access to a computer right now?

It's a holiday weekend. If the buyer hasn't paid after the 96 hour window, file a UPI claim.

Unless you listed your item with immediate payment required, your buyer has 4 full days, 96 hours, to pay.

If you were unaware of this, then you might want to review all the information eBay offers about selling here.  There may have been other information you missed.

I wish ebay would require a new seller to list only low dollar items until they learn at least the basics of how things work.  I cringe when I see the first item for sale something I would still hesitate to offer even though I've sold over ten thousand items.

👍 Absolutely Agree!! These new sellers are just setting themselves up for trouble & a lot of disappointment.  They need to learn the ropes and rules.

    Happy Holidays!

Yes, I agree.  It would probably also be nice if there was a way to force them to read absolutely all the information about selling.  And then maybe have to pass a quiz.

Your next move is to wait (at least) 96 hours and one second from the Auction's end to cancel the sale citing 'Buyer didn't pay', if they still haven't. Do NOT send invoices as they reset the buyer's payment window. Good luck.

Buyers have 4 days to pay.  No need for communication or sending invoices.  All of that is Don  for you.  Fees are not charged until payment is made.  Slow down and  just wait.  If you have irritated the buyer, they may wait until the last second to pay.

Twelve hours is nothing - maybe your buyer sleeps.  Regardless, buyer has 96 hours to pay.  If he doesn’t, you can cancel using the reason that buyer hasn’t paid.  Just wait it out.

Nope - no sale, no fees.  Unless you used advanced promotions, I believe.
