New private buyer restrictions: Highland, Island & NI surcharges?

So, eBay are announcing another move against private buyers by limiting delivery services to either Royal Mail or EVRI. Obviously, there is more profit for eBay but the very idea of offering up a guesstimate of costs based on average sizes is infantile. There do appear ways to choose larger parcel sizes than the limiting max. 67cm but there is NO information about what happens when a buyer bids from one of the carrier surcharge areas like Highlands & Islands & NI. EVRI charge a LOT more for such deliveries & RM are often either outside the size limits or similarly expensive.

At present, my listings warn that most deliveries to those areas need to be arranged in advance, so a carriage cost can be listed & chosen at checkout. But if sellers no longer have any right to list particular prices, what is going to happen? I realise this is all intended to remove private sellers from this marketplace &, to be honest, with listings all too frequently apparently invisible on searches, it is no longer a very good place to list but the UK lacks alternatives. Any info welcome.

I know you are on the UK site but is there no way to use calculated shipping? Weigh and measure the item in its package (unsealed of course) at listing time and then buyers will see the Ebay calculation of shipping cost to their specific address?

You probably can get an Ebay 'guesstimate' of the cost based on history of sales from similar sellers but I would never trust that in place of the actual data about my actual package.
