New auto part return request...any options here ?
Sold a very large, fairly low priced new auto part and shipped all the way across the country. Received a "Does not fit" return request. Contacted buyer and the said it was actually "Ordered by mistake". Part was $70 and the shipping was $69.99 lol. Looks like we are on the hook for the return shipping and no way around it with the new E-bay policy on New auto parts ? Thank you.

·5 months agoThe fact that D50s were so rare actually means that there are still some of the kits floating around. We did the top on that one like 3 years ago with a new old stock kit.

Pretty sure we have the D50 market covered.
Which means, we not very smart. LOL
(I drove the wheels off mine. It sat here 30 years because I didn't have the heart to take it apart. BUT, I'm trying to quit, not buying anything else, and now going through all the stuff I've gathered up over the years).

·5 months agoThe only thing mine actually needs is for a real mechanic to look at how I botched the Weber carb swap and fix it. It is a 99K survivor that has a stack of service records from new.
I would buy a set of lowered spindles, but those pretty much never turn up because someone needs to be parting out a truck that had them on there in order for them to show up.

So the buyer paid the $69.99 shipping originally, wasn't free shipping.
I am not sure whether "Doesn't Fit" is a remorse return or "Inad"
I believe it can go either way depending on which category it's listed.

Some items are not a good fit for the eBay venue.
Almost everything I sell can be shipped for under $6, and this by design.

OP5 months agoInteresting update : Just for the heck of it I clicked on "buy return label" and the cost was only $15lsh, so we "purchased" one. It was through Fed Ex.

I'd just refund and be done with it.
I'd also stop listing those silly D50 parts until somebody else sells a few of theirs..LOL

OP5 months agoHa, ya it went from Oregon to NC. And $69.99 just barely covered it...keeping fingers crossed the whole time UPS doesn`t upcharge along the way ! Yes D-50 not hot sellers lol.

·5 months agoOh gosh, UPS upcharges you won't see those until your monthly statement comes in, that's where ebay takes the money out for that and if there are any upcharges they never stand up for sellers... In fact I suspect UPS and Fedex both love sticking it to ebay simply because ebay always pays them out of our funds without recourse on our part.
Always ship USPS anywhere possible.
Onto the return shipping...
Technically it's a remorse return meaning the buyer is on the hook, however "does not fit" may fall under "item not as described?" so I'm not really sure how that would work... If it falls under the MBG then you have to cover the return shipping, and if you're TRS+ you can withhold up to 50% of the refund once you receive the item back, that may cover one leg...
You're still out of any profit even without the return.
I am sure this experience will make you seriously math out some future online sales methods, I know for myself I've had a few educational events of this sort as well.

·5 months agoHey, I love D-50s. Here is mine. I think a lot of action on the D50 parts happens in the facebook groups. I know that is where I always end up buying everything for mine.
D50s are unicorns compared to Mazda, Nissan and Toyota. I haven't seen a first gen that I didn't personally own for at least 25 years. So parts movement is going to be slow, unless it is a grill, you can sell a grill in minutes.

·5 months agoYes, you are on the hook for return shipping, but you don't have to refund original shipping when they return it for "does not fit".
I'd tell them to send it back and refund the original item cost only. Then at least you'd have the item to re-sell (as used).
