Need your advice on an Item sold with incorrect Title and Description
yesterday, someone purchased an item that was incorrectly described as " '70 Plymouth GTX" instead of " '71 Plymouth GTX" (i.e. 1970 instead of 1971). Following the sale, I sent two messages to the buyer regarding this issue but have not received a reply yet. The description of the item also incorrectly mentions the wrong year, but it also says that "This sale is for the model kit pictured: '70 Plymouth GTX", implying (i believe) that what is pictured is what will be shipped. As a side note, the buyer is new with zero feedback. Should I ship the item, or cancel the transaction, re-list it with the proper title and description, and send a message to the buyer letting him know that he can purchase the item again if they would like to? I'm also afraid that I will receive negative feedback, but, maybe, that is what one deserves for making a mistake.
the listing can be found here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/364654504405

·2 years agoi would message and give 2 days for a response. tell him or her about issue and that transaction will be cancelled unless they respond and still want it. i would not send without hearing from them it as listing info is wrong.

·2 years agoIf buyer is not responding, they are hoping you ship and then open a claim as item not as described.
Just another scam technique!
If they were an honest buyer, they would have messaged you before purchase with questions.

·2 years agoThe buyer is new and might not even know where to check if they have messages.
Not everything is a scam.

·2 years agoYou relisted it? What's you plan when/if that original buyer contacts you and says, "Yes, I still want it"?
And, BTW, on eBay there is no such thing as "As is -- no returns accepted".

·2 years agoChances are the buyer is your average eBay buyer. One who just looks at pictures and doesn't read descriptions.
So they'll be expecting a '71

·2 years agoI would have called the buyer. A week or so back I had someone buy two of the same thing on a variation listing with two variations offered. I thought it was strange he bought two of the same instead of one of each, so I called them. Sure enough they wanted one of each, but couldn't figure out how to do it even though I include instructions in the listing. (the problems people have with variation listings are a rant for another post).
So I shipped them one of each and corrected the inventory manually.
I looked at this listing and it's pretty clear you get the 71 kit, I am a little surprised it sold for that much given how common it is and there's a current release of the same kit that retails for $33. I would guess as long as buyer gets what's in the pictures you'd be fine.

·2 years agoLooks like the item has been relisted, unless the seller had another one.
Maybe he will return with the rest of the story

·2 years agoThe '71 GTX had an entirely new body design. No car guy would mistake it for the 1970 model.
From the listing pic, I'm sure the buyer knows what he was buying. Canceling could make the situation worse. I would ship and maybe include a note offering a full refund and free return shipping if the buyer was unhappy.
I realize there's the possibility that the buyer noted the listing discrepancy and is angling for a free item with no return. But let's assume goodwill by both buyer and seller. It was an honest mistake, and the buyer could be reasonable.

·2 years agoPersonally, I would not be concerned about it. The photo clearly shows the year & make of the model. The buyer wants that particular car. Even if he didn't notice the year, I would feel positive this is what he was looking for. If it concerns you that much & he isn't replying, I doubt he would reply to a cancellation notice so I would put it as buyer's request. Send a message it was relisted with the proper year & he is free to buy it again. Hope it works out for you.
soh.maryl
·2 years agoYou would cancel using a bogus reason (buyer's request) for the cancellation? Really?
sakic92710
·2 years agoWhat are you supposed to do when the choices are out of stock or damaged; buyer's request & problem with address. How much more limited can the options be?! Selecting any of the 3 is false.

·2 years agoThe OP listed a '70 GTX model but the OP not have a '70 GTX model available to ship.
If the OP does not have a '70 GTX model available to ship, the OP is out of stock.
soh.maryl
·2 years agoIsn't that why it's important that the seller contact that buyer before shipping and ask what he would prefer the seller do?
sakic92710
·2 years agoI never said it wasn't important. I always contacted the buyer. If they don't bother replying, you have to take matters into your own hands.

If that was me. I'd make the shipping label the day it should be shipped. And send a message/explanation every morning until I heard back.
I actually have one of those going on as well. Listed a left mirror with a right photo, and then I listed the right mirror, with the left photo. UGH
I have a label made and just waiting until I get a reply.
Although, now I that I think about it.... Go ahead and ship a 70 model. I mean, who would want a 71? LOL
bashort
·2 years agoI would ship it if it were me.
soh.maryl
·2 years agoEven though we don't know for sure what the buyer really expected to receive?
bashort
·2 years agoYes, when they get it then you will know for sure. Canceling gets you a definite transaction defect for being out of stock, shipping gets you the possibility of having a SNAD return which is a much less serious metric hit,
sin-n-dex
·2 years agoI would too. I'd say "If I don't hear back from you regarding cancellation on this ### item, I'm going to go ahead and ship on this date".
Then if I take a hit it will be for a SNAD return or partial refund, or something else... much less damaging than the OOS defect.
I'd also often give a partial refund anyway "because I messed up".

OP2 years agothank you, all! still no reply from the buyer. sent one more message, and will probably cancel the transaction tomorrow if i don't hear back from them.
ps: i agree that the buyer did nothing wrong, and there is no reason for me to block the buyer. +i'm definitely in the wrong here.
soh.maryl
·2 years agoGreat reply. And be sure to explain to the buyer the reason you are cancelling.
avirtualseller
OP2 years agowell, i wish i could. i just went thru the cancelling process without finalizing the process, and there is no edit box where one can explain the reason why the order is being cancelled.
also, the only three options you can choose from are:
1. out of stock, or damaged
2. Buyer asked to cancel
3. Issue with buyer's shipping address
so, i have no choice but to select #1 even though that is not the reason why i'm cancelling the order. ebay, ebay, ebay!

·2 years ago@avirtualseller
You need to 'Contact buyer' and explain the reason for the cancellation before you Cancel.
As I alluded to in my previous post, you can check their reaction and if they are onboard, you could cite 'Buyer asked to cancel', then relist it for them to repurchase after you've made the listing's corrections.
If the buyer is not onboard, you can only (honestly) use 'OOS', as you don't have a '70 Model (as advertised) in stock.

OP2 years agothanks, unfortunately, i've already sent three messages but have not heard back

Got it. So you take the honest Out of Stock Cancellation if you want to finalize it before your Handling Time runs out. Just keep an eye on your inventory... eBay only allows a couple per year. We sellers empathize... it's happened to many of us.
zobal99
·2 years agoOut of stock is a no no and will be held against you as a defect.
Better to use Issue with buyers address
Correct your listing
janet9988
·2 years agoRespectfully, #1 IS the reason you need to use to cancel. You admit you listed incorrectly.

·2 years agoThis exact thing happened to me with an item of clothing.
As I was packing the item to ship, I discovered a minor issue on the item that had not been described in my listing.
I messaged the buyer, but she did not respond to multiple messages.
So, out of an abundance of caution, I canceled the sale.
Of course, she DID receive the cancelation message and immediately responded to that with negative feedback -- my first ever.
I simply replied to the feedback, explaining what happened.
I don't think it hurt me with potential buyers.

·2 years agoSome buyers look...look...look for inaccurate descriptions.....no matter where it states or photos.
Can ship it and buyer will complain. No returns does not mean no returns.
I see a refund and buyer keeps item...just what might happen.
Do not ship. It is the weekend so expect no reply...Superbowl was a big deal...this weekend.
Zero feedback is probably in my own opinion...my own opinion...I will not ship it.
Its a bit pricy for me to lose that sum of money.
Block the buyer immediately....my own opinion.
If buyer emails you...maybe ship it...signature required for package received...which costs more.
soh.maryl
·2 years agoRespectfully, why should the OP "block the buyer"?
The OP admits that his listing was erroneous. He is concerned because he has been unable to contact the buyer. What has the buyer done, exactly, that he deserves to be blocked?

·2 years agoSince you have a 4 day handling time, I'd give the buyer a little more time to respond.

·2 years ago@avirtualseller
I'd try to call the buyer.
On their Order page, you should see their phone number in the Shipping section, under their address.
Since they're new, they are probably not seeing your messages. ;/
mtgraves7984
·2 years agoI see '70 in the Description and Title, but '71 in the photo. No... I wouldn't ship the item as it sold.
This is one time I'd use one of my Out of Stock cancellations (unless the messages you've sent are responded to and allow you to use 'Buyer requested') and relist the item. You've got until your ship date to decide, and I see 4-Day Handling...
By all means sell to the same buyer if they are still ready, willing and able. Good luck to you.
