Need to shut down shop for 6 months - how?
Hi, i cant find instructions on how exactly to shut down my shop for 5-7 months, but would like the items to be back online for sale after that. (I'll be traveling and not able to mail anything).
I appreciate any help on this matter. Thank you.

OP9 months agoThank you everyone for all your replies, help & suggestions. I went with the "out of stock" option since that seems less chance to make mistake (of possibly forgetting things that would need with the "end listing/seller away" option).
And yes will have access to eBay the whole time.

·9 months agoWill you have access to eBay during that time?
You could close all your listings then once a month go to them near midnight , reopen them all, and immediately close them again.
They will List and then go back on your Unsold page.
The Unsold page will hold the listings for 60 to 90 days, but doing this more often is braces and belt.

·9 months agoAdd $500 to the price of all your items and you will not sell a single on while you are gone.
However since you seem to exclusively have high end 2024 / 2025 sports cards I would consider a fire sale first as most rookie cards TANK in value over time when the rookies don't work out as well as everyone hoped.
Seriously, considering just putting all those rookies on auction right now and taking whatever you get rather than letting 97 of them tank while 3 go up.

·9 months agoanother thing you could do is add 3 zeroes to every price while you are away then have a big sale when you get back

·9 months agoThat's old school predating the Out Of Stock option and for sellers that did not have a Store which years ago was required to use Vacation settings.

·9 months agoI had to do that in 2024 when we were renovating. I did it for one month at a time with some months allowing sales and others no sales. I would actually go in one day early and end the time away and then re-up it again for another 30 days.
Some listings I zeroed out, but missed that expiration date and had to create all 700 listings again. I wouldn't suggest doing that unless you have a really good memory, unlike me.
Also, prepare yourself. Ebay may hold your funds when you get back up and operating after all that time off, and it may take up to 2 days for all of your listings to get booted up again too.

·9 months agoThe out of stock option is also not a good idea in my opinion because ... it will not remember your quantities.
I take it back. It looks like most of the OP's quantities are "1".

·9 months agoJust to mention that you could pay a listing service for several months........just to hold the listings there........
I'm not conversant with all of them............but Auctiva, Inkfrog, come to mind.........and there are more.

·9 months agoAssuming that Ebay policy would not have changed in a way that would not affect your listings could be a very optimistic assumption.

·9 months agoYou can go 1 month at a time.
Away for 1 month.
Away for another month.
Away for another month...

·9 months agoYou can't do it that long.
You can end listings- but they only hold 90 days. You would then have to relist on day 89, then 'end' again.

OP9 months agoThanks so much!
Do you think end listing for 89 days then relisting, to then end listing again is best way?
Or would you suggest putting "out of stock" for all items?
Looking forward to yours and others opinions.
Much appreciated and happy new year!

·9 months agosetting the qty to 0 on everything should remain active but out of stock for 180 days, make sure you have the "out of stock" option enabled.
I have extended a few items past 180 days by putting a absurd price on them and a qty of 1 for a few days then back to 0

·9 months agoThe Out Of Stock option works perfectly for this BUT just to clarify, the listings will renew 5 times and be ended on the 6th renewal. That means UP TO 180 days but could be as little as 151 days. You could however bulk revise and add a quantity of 1 and then a few minutes later revise back to zero which should start the clock again (I have never tested this so there is a possibility that trick might not work, just thinking that eBay might require at least one renewal with a valid quantity to reset the counter).
One other thing, if you have multi-quantity listings you would need to keep track of those number so you can accurately update the inventory.
