Need help figuring this out
On Jan 15, I sold a Maitland Smith Rams Head Paperweight to "Kinney"; I shipped it the same day.
I got up this morning to see that the Paperweight sold again on Jan 16 to "McCrary". When I looked at the listing for the one that sold Jan 15, it does show that 0 quantity remains (I originally had two but one sold a few months ago) so not sure how "McCrary" was able to buy it on the 16th.
Here is where it gets confusing. When I click on the listing for the paperweight that sold on Jan 16, it shows "Kinney" as the buyer, but it should show "McCrary" because he's the one that bought it on the 16th. When I go to sold listings and put in "Maitland Smith Rams Head Paperweight" in the search box, it only brings up one sold and that one is the one that sold on Jan 16 but it shows that was sold to "Kinney". But "Kinney" bought it on Jan 15; "McCrary" bought it on Jan 16. It doesn't even bring up the one that sold on Jan 15. If eBay thinks I sold two items, it should have two sold listings, right? Why isn't it showing the one that sold on Jan 15, that I already shipped. (And I checked, it is in my payments received.)
This is so confusing. I can't figure out how "McCrary" bought it on the 16th after it had already sold to "Kinney" on the 15th and why "McCrary's" purchase on the 16th is showing that "Kinney" is the buyer. Somehow, it's like eBay got two orders intertwined but I don't know.
If anyone can make heads or tails of this, I would appreciate it.

Yes, I received the payment on the 15th for "Kinney's" order and shipped that the same day.
I also received payment on the 16th for "McCrary's" order but cannot ship that one as I do not have the item.
I do not understand why, when you click on the listing/order on Jan 16th, it shows "Kinney" as the buyer; "McCrary" was the buyer of that order. And why, when you go to the advanced search box and put in "Maitland Smith Rams Head Paperweight" and go to sold items, it only brings up the sale on Jan 16th. Why doesn't it bring up the sale of Jan 15th?
@lacemaker3
I did originally have three of these paperweights. The first sold about six months ago, the second sold a couple of months ago (those are the two that are reflected in my feedback that you show) and the third sold two days ago.

·8 months agoThe Sold Items search only shows that latest, most recent sale that was made from a particular listing.
You can view the purchase history for the listing to see all the sales (in the recent history, anyway, I think within the past 90 days or so) for a given listing. If you (the seller) view this link, you will be able to see the buyer's user IDs, everyone else sees masked IDs like I showed earlier.

@pickapaper, you need to cancel the transaction for the latest sale as "out of stock".

Yes, I know I need to cancel the order as out of stock and apologize to the buyer. I'll accept that I messed up somewhere. Just trying to understand it all and it isn't making sense to me, maybe I'm just overthinking it.

·8 months agoI agree that you are overthinking it. Lacemaker3 showed you exacty how to make sense of it. Let go of your previous assumptions and attempts at understanding and look at Lacemaker3's posts with fresh eyes.
Yours Orders tab in your Seller Hub will have the two orders for the two people who purchased your listing because it had a quantity of 2, not 1. Do not look at listings, or sold items, or search results, or anything else. Just look at the orders.

You have had two listings for that ram's head paperweight, and they both sold two items.
So if you only had one left, then the problem was that you forgot to change the quantity when you relisted it on Nov 17, 2025, about a month and a half after the second one was sold.

The purchase history from the first listing is not available anymore, but you did receive feedback for the two sales for that listing:

·8 months agoYou located the 2 recent sales for Kinney and McCrary.
Were you able to locate the sale from a few months ago?

OP8 months ago@inhawaii wrote: " Were you able to locate the sale from a few months ago?"
No, that has nothing to do with it. The two orders that are mixed up are from yesterday and two days ago and why the second order from yesterday shows the buyer's name as the one from the first order two days ago.

·8 months agoItem #326869522059 shows you had a quantity of 2 and sold 2.
I'm not sure I understand that other stuff.
Too complicated for me. 😉
Just a unrelated thought...
On a used item, even though you have a quantity of 2, wouldn't it be better to make a separate listing and photo for each, since they will each be slightly different?

Yes, I originally had two available on the listing but sold one several months ago so only one remained. And as far as a separate listing for each, I agree, but in this case they were so similar with just a bit of damage to the paper label on the bottom that I originally listed them on the same listing.
And I agree, it is complicated. I'm hoping someone can figure it out.
