So I sold a Clock in March. Everything was fine. Now its May. Apparently somehow the same clock got listed again and sold.
I never resisted. Its not in my listings. Its only in my sold folder. Ebay help told me to just go ahead and send the clock out and be sure when you relist things to pay attention so it dosen't happen again. WHAT? Ship it ship? Ship what? They can't understand something or someone resisted it. I can't find the listing. So now what I'm supposed to refund for this after eBay's taking all their fees and tax and everything else out of it when do I get my money back? On top of that I contacted the buyer and have had no response. Is this a hack? I don't know. But eBay says I double listed. Which is impossible. I know perfectly well I didn't do it somebody or a machine did it. Anything like this happened to anybody else out there? You think for the money we pay these people we would get better service than we're getting it's a sad deal when they get so rich off of us and can't even answer the phone. Can you tell I'm a little upset?

·4 months agoI can personally attest there is some kind of database or similar error causing this.
The last time this happened to me, the new listing was created several hours after I am normally in bed. I could not have possibly listed it. I am the only one with the log in to my account and computer.

·4 months agoI don't think it is in this case, since both listings had different photos and description.

If it is these two listings, you used different gallery pictures, so it wasn't eBay that relisted it by a glitch. I'm sorry this happened, but I'm afraid that you must have listed it again because the two listings are not exactly the same.
The first one used a cleaned-up picture with the background removed, while the second listing has the same picture, but with the background still there. Some of the other pictures are the same, so it must be the same clock in the pictures. There is also an extra character (1) in the title, and the description is different.
Because of all these slight differences, you must have made changes when you created the second listing a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't a relist of the first listing, or a copy of it.

·4 months agoThe second mantle clock that you claim was not listed was in fact listed.
That listing was revised/updated on May 24th.
Human error.

·4 months agoAsk the buyer to cancel the order because they changed their mind, ask them nicely. If you cancel, for whatever reason, it will affect your account.

·4 months agoI wouldn’t bother the buyer beyond simply handling the refund.
They’re already likely to be upset when the order is canceled, so there’s no need to go poking a sleeping bear....😁

You probably did, then changed your mind.

That doesn't even make sense. The buyer is probably going to be upset anyway at not receiving what he purchased and you think the seller should then ask the buyer to lie and say he changed his mind? I don't usually leave negatives for any reason but if I had a seller ask me to do that, I wouldn't be able to leave a negative fast enough.
It's all about taking responsibility for one's actions. If the seller made a mistake in listing the clock twice (or whatever happened), he has to take the strike for being out of stock. He shouldn't throw the burden on the buyer.

·4 months agoDo you know the date in which this clock was listed? Maybe you accidently listed it again by mistake and didn't know you did that. When an active listing is sold it goes into the sold file which is actually under "My orders." If you do not have this clock and you have funds in your account you must refund the buyer "Out of Stock." Fees get reimburse to you once you refund the buyer. You are not collecting taxes Ebay does that. Ebay will refund the sales tax to the buyer.
"You think for the money we pay these people we would get better service than we're getting it's a sad deal when they get so rich off of us and can't even answer the phone."
Ebay has a system in place where you type in your issue through chatbox and then request a call back. There is no direct phone number anymore. When using Ebay you understand this. Ebay is a service who is in business to make money. You are profiting off the service by selling the item on Ebay's platform to where you are getting "Rich" for selling an item that you normally wouldn't sell for market value.

Tell your buyer that you have looked everywhere for this clock and cannot find it. Apologies and I'll get your money back to you asap.
Then cancel the transaction or refund.
Either works fine.
You will not be out any fees or any money.

·4 months agoYes I can tell your a little upset, But there is really nothing that can be done about this matter, except refund the customer because you do not have the item, But the out of stock is going to affect your account, As far as who did it, Is a question no one here can answer it's your word against theirs, Good Luck.

·4 months agoThere is a bug in the code that eBay either does not admit to being there or has been unable to find. This happens more often than people are aware. Ghost listing.

·4 months agoI used to believe that relists were caused by ebay glitches until I set up a specific email account just for ebay emails and turned all of them on. Now when it happens I can search the email account and it turns out that every single time it has happened since then it has been something I did.

·4 months agoIts easily done, ebay can run a back up, then reload the old backup and if the old backup wasnt updated before the old backup was launched it can happen, with data held all over the world in different data centres under the control of many different ebay operating companies its destined to happen.

·4 months agoIt doesn't happen as often as people think.
Most of the time, when we know what listings were involved, it's possible to figure out what probably happened, as in this case (see my earlier post).
I won't say that ghost listings never happen. I recall one case where I was not able to find a logical explanation, so that one did end up being a ghost.

Looks like you revised the listing on 5/24/26
