My buyer successfully bid on an item. Now he wants to mer hold it and combine it with an auction
item 7 days out. Holding the first item beyond the "ship by date" will probably then go against my ship on time record . Is there anything I can do? Thanks

·8 months agoYou said they "bid" on the item, but have they paid? If they haven't, then holding the item until the other one ends shouldn't be a problem, it's something that I often do. If they have paid for it, I would apologize and let the buyer know that because they have paid, you must ship within your shipping window. Buyer should not have paid if they wanted combined shipping.

·8 months agoWhen I have had this happen I ask that they do not pay for the items until they are ready to have items shipped. The shipping time is based on the payment date, not auction ending date.

·8 months agoSounds like a good 'repeat buyer'.
I would ship it and maybe give free or reduce shipping on other item.
Would you rather have 'repeat buyers' or 'nickel and dime' buyers on shipping...

·8 months agoYou are required to ship the item the buyer purchased within the "ship by date". There is nothing you can do that won't get you a defect if you wait longer. The buyer will need to pay full shipping cost for the second item. Don't allow your account to be damaged because a buyer wants to hold off a week. The buyer is responsible to ask all questions up front before making a bid or purchase. Now they agreed to terms which doesn't work in there favor of combine shipping.

·8 months agoAs long as they hold off on paying you can do that. Make sure you don't have the automatic unpaid option turned on. Once it's paid you have to ship on time or get dinged.

·8 months agoIf you ship out this item now, the buyer just may not place a bid on the second item. You'll have to determine if shipping late will relegate you from Top Rated to Above Standard for a while [3% of 12 months' transactions] - and whether avoiding that is really worth the possible monetary loss of that second sale.

·8 months agoTell him you have to ship the first item out due to ebay rules but if he wins the second item you will give him free shipping or reduce the shipping charge.

·8 months agoThat doesn't work. The seller has to ship two packages, and still pay the shipping for both.

·8 months agoI was thinking the same thing. It costs more to ship two packages.
To the OP:
I would ship the first package now. The second, you can give them a few dollars off the shipping charge since they bought two. It will cost you a few bucks, but it sounds like it's worth it to you to get this business and make the customer happy.

·8 months agoIt works if the seller agrees to eat the cost of shipping for the second item.
