My "Brand" is not listed on the drop down menu
Summary: adamcartwright faced difficulty listing kitchen cabinet knobs due to missing manufacturer options. shire123 suggested using "unknown" in the listing, while inhawaii confirmed this as effective. mam98031 explained limited responses on the Mentor forum due to volume, while discussing the value of having choices like the Ask a Mentor (AAM) board for private queries. Other participants noted the importance of understanding these choices and shared additional listing tips. The discussion brought up how changing categories can sometimes allow adding custom brands.
@anitastreeter56
I am trying to list kitchen cabinet knobs. The manufacturer is not listed, and I can't add a manufacturer, and I cant go forward without filling in that field.
Help!
I was unable to answer your question posted in the Ask a Mentor forum, so here you go.
Do a sell similar off this listing and you can add your own brand.
It's possible you're mistakenly in a strange category that doesn't allow it, for some reason.

·1 month agoShort of using Google to make comparisons of other similar kitchen cabinet knobs, I would have suggested taking a baggie filled with the knobs to any HUGE warehouse retailer, and comparing against their stock and/or asking for assistance from one of their employees.

OP1 month agoI believe what this person meant was that the brand was not listed in the Brand field's drop down menu and there was no way to add it.
I'm guessing they were trying to list in a strange category, because when I did a sell similar off a sold listing, it was possible to add your own brand.

·1 month agoThanks for posting the AAM questions on the general boards - it helps both the original poster in need and those that are browsing these boards.

·1 month agoA long holiday weekend and the Mentor staff is limited even on regular days. There are only so many to go around. Sadly not all questions in the AAM get answered, sorry.

OP1 month agoI wasn't slamming the mentors. But seems the person felt they needed a mentor's advice, when most anyone could have directed them in this case.
mam98031
·1 month agoYet that specific member made the CHOICE to go to the AAM. Sometimes members do not want to post in the general Community as sometimes posters can be pretty rough on the OP for a variety of reasons. Some want to avoid that and just get a helping hand with something they have going on. The AAM is an OPTION and we each can CHOOSE to use it, avoid it or ignore it.
adamcartwright
OP1 month agoI agree with you on that.
mam98031
·1 month agoSo it is also important to remember that the poster of an question in the AAM may NOT want you to start a thread here with their message or concern and certainly not their ID. Each member has the right to make this choice for themselves. Because some don't like the AAM board or feel it doesn't function the way they feel it does, doesn't give them the right to make decisions for someone else. But if you message them and ask them for their permission to post it elsewhere, no harm done with their permission.

OP1 month agoRemember we hadn't been able to message for awhile.
I assume if the person posted in AAM, they were okay with their account being associated with that question here in this forum -- what am I missing there?
mam98031
·1 month agoYou would be incorrect. Your Assumption that the poster in the AAM would be OK with being on the open forums is wrong. As I've stated before, we have more readers of the Community than we do those that actually participate. There is a reason for that. Some simply don't like the back and forth, no matter if it is civil or productive. And then there are always those sarcastic posts that are often misunderstood. Some are simply not willing or don't want to be involved. You have no right to ASSUME anything for another member.
What you are missing is that in the AAM they are only going to be conversing with Mentor and NOT the general public, which is intentional. This may not be something you like or agree with and that is fine, you have every right to make that decision for yourself. What you don't have is the right to make that decision for another member. Get their permission and then all is fine.

·1 month agoMost likely don't even realize they're posting on a board that only mentors can respond to, or what that means. I wouldn't assume they chose anything except to ask their question.
mam98031
·1 month agoThere is likely some of that too. But many simply don't want to be out on the general threads as not everyone is welcoming to OPs. I know I've been at fault for that too from time to time, so I'm not pointing any fingers. It is simply a choice for the member to make.

·1 month agoGiven the link you provided, it seems you could enter "unknown" just like that listing has.
And definitely I would use the "sell one like this" tab.

·1 month ago"Unknown" or "Unbranded" will usually work.
