Multiple item listings
I can't understand why eBay is allowing itself to be undermined with sellers avoiding listing fees by creating excessively confusing multiple item listings.
This has destroyed my shopping experience here, as I shop by price, and can't stand these confusing listings, and deceptive practices (Chinese sellers shipping from US warehouses)
Amazon has become much less complicated and a LOT more transparent. My personal experience is that this place is being over run by frauds, fakes, and misrepresentation.
China also circumvents the rules by using key words such as GENUINE and AUTHENTIC, in their listings and getting away with it by PRECEDING the words with the word "For". A good example would be a GENUINE CRAFTSMAN TOOL BATTERY. The application would be a knockoff listed as BATTERY FOR GENUINE CRAFTSMAN TOOL, and more often than not, a reference to LOCATED IN THE USA (Even if the SELLER is not)

·8 months ago@chopper1538 I hear what you are saying. As a seller, I do not like variation listings. I used them for DVD series that I was breaking up and selling by the season. The performance for those listings was terrible. As soon as I removed those listings and started listing each season individually, they almost immediately started selling.
While I'm not saying I would never use them again, I've got a store and plenty of space, so I'd say it is less likely.

·8 months agoIf a variations listing is set up correctly, I have no trouble understanding it.
If it isn't set up correctly or is confusing, I simply don't buy.
Simple.

·8 months agoBy offering several different products... SHOWING the most expensive and displaying the lowest price of items listed.
EACH DIFFERENT ITEM SHOULD HAVE IT'S OWN SEPARATE LISTING, instead of being part of a confusing list of MULTIPLE DIFFERENT ITEMS.

·9 months agoWhich is why it is very important to do research before you make the purchase which would be looking over the sellers profile. Understand that when you shop by price yes you will get cheap fakes. If they are from China then avoid them. View feedback. If other buyers are having issues with the seller that would give you a red flag. What I do in your situation is I know how much an item is worth around so in advance search I place a higher minimum and click United States only. That reduces a lot of fakes. Also know your rights as a buyer. If the item is fake you have a 30 day money back guarantee. Return it.

·8 months agoMy INTENTION is to het these idiots to recognize they are CREATING confusion that unscrupulous sellers will take advantage of.
I also SHOULD NOT have to WORK to enjoy using eBay. THEY are allowing this! (And I am QUITE SURE I am not the only one seriously ANNOYED by this.)
They are LOSING money by annoying people away! (Including me, as Amazon is becoming easier and more transparent.)

·8 months agoI don’t think anyone here is saying it should be happening, but realistically, it would be impossible to effectively enforce any policy against it. Who decides which items are too different to belong in the same listing, and how much time will it take (and therefore how much will it cost to employ the people who will do that work)? You may not want to do the work, but there’s a point where you have to accept that being a buyer is never going to be effortless.

You aren't working to enjoy using Ebay you are instead using tools which Ebay provides you and advice which was given to you to protect yourself from scammers or flake sellers. Ebay can only do so much. They are not experts nor be able to police everything. They rely on users to report any fraudulent activity. This is the internet. Stuff like this happens. Here is the thing there are items which you really can't find on Amazon nor locally so people will continue to shop Ebay to get those items. Certain items of course Amazon may have a heads up on it but not everything. You brought up a Craftsmen tool battery. That's something I would probably purchase in the store. If I need a cheap used on I can check Ebay.

·8 months agoNot the least bit true. YOU are just making excuses for them so THEY don't need to justify policing their listings.
The last SEVERAL items I searched eBay for were ALL part of extremely confusing listings. I have left the sellers negative ack for listing confusion and search manipulation. Each DIFFERENT ITEM SHOULD have ittown separate listing and should be paid for as such. This isn't a proper way to list everything you carry. This is avoiding listing fees
I personally no longer like ANY listing like this and MOST of the items that I have been after are part of this confusing nonsense.
I will no longer purchase from these listing unless I feel like gambling AND leaving negative feedback (as I will regardless, due to search manipulation and confusion.
Do as YOU choose.
I will not purchase from these sellers unless there is no other reasonable option. eBay's reputation is going down hill because of scammers and garbage, and this is just pushing their reputation into UNDESIRABLE..

·8 months agoSo the LA or NY Times 'polices' and 'checks out' all their advertisers? No, they do not.
Does Autotrader or any magazine full of ads 'check out' their advertisers? No.
So what, @bonanza125 stated is MORE than true. It simply IS.
2,000,000,000 listings there is no way an entity can 'police' or 'look at' all the listings that are created daily (over 1,000,000 transactions, new listings etc PER day).

If the listing was extremely confusing then that's on you for purchasing the item. You are deliberately leaving negative feedback for a listing you found confusing up front. If you receive an item which isn't as described or whatever the case may be you work with the seller to correct the issue. You don't just leave negative feedback.
"I will not purchase from these sellers unless there is no other reasonable option. eBay's reputation is going down hill because of scammers and garbage, and this is just pushing their reputation into UNDESIRABLE."
Then buy elsewhere. Trust me sellers aren't interested in your business with your mindset. Ebay is doing fine. Buyers and sellers come and go. Many say they are leaving but in reality they still stay.

·9 months agoHow are sellers avoiding listing fees by creating excessively confusing multiple item listings?
slippinjimmy
·9 months agoThe OP is no doubt referring to Variation listings not multi-quantity.
Specifically the are talking about Variation listings with a "bogus" low price item added to what you see in the Title and on the price range shown in search. This is both misleading and annoying for buyers AND it's Search Manipulation (which is against eBay policy).
These are the listings that show a price range like $1.99 - $79.99 on a listing for shoes with the $1.99 item being a pair of low quality shoe laces and all the other "variations" are actual shoes at $79.99.
