Just recently had a listing removed for a "policy violation" due to scanning done by AI bots.
This item I sold many times. (By brand as well as similar chemical composition)
Other sellers are currently selling this or a similarly comprised variations of this item.
It was a hazardous substance "violation."
The violation is of an ordinance /prohibition relevant in British Law for merchandise for sale to the United Kingdom.
I only ship within the continental United States. I have NEVER shipped to the UK.
On multiple levels, a cursory review (even by an AI bot) would not flag this item. Sad.
I was deciding whether or not to sell this item or keep it. I thought I wanted to sell it.
Sometimes I am wrong.

OP5 months agoOh, for certain. I was listing it because it's a great/quick seller.
I surely wanted to keep it for myself.
Trying to be pragmatic & positive about it, I felt this was the Universe saying, "keep it."
I could have submitted for and pursued a claim to have it reinstated.
We all have enough stress in our lives that I could do without the hassle.
I just have never seen an item pulled because it violated another country's law when it was never going to that other country.

OP5 months agoI believe, more specifically, that that pigment & paint made with it is banned in the United Kingdom.
This was the genesis of the takedown.
An erroneous Hazmat flag I could at least logically understand as a possible error.

·5 months agoI've had more take downs this past year than I've had in over 20 years. One was an empty box that used to contain bubble lights and another was a perfume display bottle that didn't contain perfume. Another was an electronic item, which I can understand since the cord was old.

OP5 months agoI see, did you ever have a listing removed because it was unlawful to sell it to a client in Lithuania when you don't (for the hypothetical sake of this argument) ship to Lithuania & never have.
This is the scenario with my item.
That is in no way attempting to disregard the frustration and/or inconvenience that you have been unduly caused in your scenarios. Just an attempt to clarify.

OP5 months agoIt was artist oil paint (specific issue being pigment content) & the anomaly that irritated was not that it was a false hazmat flag but rather that it was cited as a violation of existing UK import regulations/laws re: hazardous substances when I have never & do not currently ship to the UK or anywhere outside of the US.
It is an item commonly sold on eBay. A quick seller when available for sale.
As an aside, I would never sell Turps or highly volatile liquids online even though permitted when properly marked/designated and shipped via ground only.

Reminds me of the old pigment mummy. Actually made from ground up human and feline mummies. The ones that got damaged when excavated. Many antique oil paintings could contain the pigment. It was very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries.
It's said the firm C. Roberson & Co stopped making the paint in 1964 because they ran out of mummy bodies to grind.........................

OP5 months agoNot when the violation is for the UK and you only ship within the US. That doesn't come with the territory.

The comment was a heads up to other sellers that an AI bot can remove your listing without cause & citing erroneous and/or inapplicable laws.
You all know this.
Some will only care when & if it directly impacts them personally with re: to sales.
