Most sales go off without a hitch but...
Summary: inhawaii shared a situation where a buyer complained about receiving a product different from what they ordered. hartungcards and others discussed possible misunderstandings, noting that inhawaii asked the buyer what they ordered and received to clarify the situation. The conversation included humorous comments about unique products like Hawaiian toothbrushes. Eventually, inhawaii discovered the error was due to a change in product packaging that was not updated in the listing, and offered the buyer a resolution with a refund option.
Most sales go off without a hitch but the few that go bad always seem so bizarre.

Sold 2 of these a few days ago and shipped.
Today I get a message from the buyer:
"I did not receive the product I ordered. You sent me a product I could have bought locally. I bought your product you listed but received something different."
I replied with:
"What product did you order and what product did you receive?"
Isn't it odd that she wouldn't say what she received?
Stay tuned for the reply.

OP3 weeks agoI will always admit when I make a mistake.
I made a mistake.
Apparently the picture on my listing and the actual item are slightly different.
When I re-stocked the item the packaging and product changed slightly and I didn't catch that.
I apologized and offered the buyer a partial refund if she wants to keep them -or- a full refund if she wants to return them.

·3 weeks agoHave you revised the listing with an updated photo of the actual item you are selling so this does not happen again?

·3 weeks agoSometimes people thing you can read their minds. All too often on these threads posters omit important details thinking we should already know them. But how could we unless they tell us. It is something we deal with daily here.
It is hard to understand sometimes. A real head scratcher.

OP3 weeks ago...and the part about her being able to buy them locally.
That throws me off too.
"Dear customer, Why did you buy toothbrushes from me? You know you can buy them locally, right?"
hartungcards
·3 weeks ago · EditedDid you explain to her how rare it is to find an 8-pack of Hawaiian toothbrushes? Ask her to prove she can buy an 8-pack of Hawaiian toothbrushes locally. I mean sure, you may find a 2-pack or even a 3-pack of Hawaiian toothbrushes locally, but an 8-pack of Hawaiian toothbrushes? Good luck with that.

And Hawaiian toothbrushes are quite rare, as well -- the handles are constructed of hardened volcanic ash, while the bristles are made from pineapple fronds.
Just try to purchase THAT locally.

·3 weeks agoOff topic, I was an a Writers Conference in Calgary AB this past weekend and was chatting with a woman wearing a blouse made of pineapple fibre. She had purchased it on a visit home to the Philippines.
A little like this.

·3 weeks agoThat's piña cloth - it's popular in traditional Filipino clothing. I've sold a number of pieces. Part of my family is from the Philippines and I've seen them wearing it, too.

·3 weeks agoMaybe she thinks it's odd that you asked her what product she ordered, since you obviously know what she ordered.

·3 weeks agoThe Op knows what the buyer bought but does not know what the buyer thought they bought, or intended to buy, not always the same

·3 weeks agoDid you read the part of the OP that says:
I replied with:
"What product did you order and what product did you receive?"
adamcartwright
·3 weeks agoMaybe OP is trying to figure out what the buyer is saying, since the buyer didn't give any facts?

OP3 weeks ago · EditedYou're right.
I should have asked "What product do you THINK you ordered?" LOL
