Misuse of return reason to avoid shipping charges.

Has anyone else noticed that the word has gotten out that is your buyers can us the "Not as described or pictured" reason on returns to avoid shipping costs. And eBay has decided to turn a blind eye to the issue and ignore the seller's plea's. I did find an article on the web that indicates to do this to avoid shipping charges.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.104View listings

Like you, I also have a "buyer pays return shipping" policy but in my category, I haven't had that experience. I have a theory of why your buyers may use NAD reasons rather than remorse for returns.

Clothing is a category in which buyers often need to try on items in order to know if they fit, if the item works for them, if it looks right, if the color is right, etc. And to add to the confusion (for buyers) is that even within a specific brand, different styles can fit differently even if they're the same size. (This is one reason why I can't buy shoes or jeans online. I need to try items on!)

Perhaps in the clothing category, "free returns" is the way to cut back on NAD claims. Raise your prices a bit to cover your return shipping costs.

Since you charge separately for shipping, a benefit of doing free returns is that although you'll supply the return shipping label, you aren't obligated to refund original shipping. This is an option that is available to sellers who charge for shipping.

I think it'll save you in the long run by cutting your NAD claims.
