Messages that just say Hi
Summary: kathshaf raised a concern about receiving messages that just say 'hi' or 'hello' from outside the US on their listings. mam98031 clarified that these are not scams but rather a waste of time, as no money or product is at risk. mamacassidy suggested these users might be fishing for offers, while stainlessenginecovers explained it could be an attempt to sell email information if it were done via email. Another participant wondered why someone would respond to such messages. kathshaf thanked everyone for clarifying their concerns.
My recent listings have received messages, just saying hi or hello, from outside the US. If I respond, I get nothing back. Is this a scam of some sort?

·1 month agoNah, you're just spamming and probably trying to scam people here. Reported.

·1 month agoReponses for that, in EMAILS is just phishing for you to respond so they can sell your email address to other junk/scammers etc.
If just in messages- these people THINK that will do something but it will not as it goes through the hidden ebay system and that moron will NOT be able to sell it to anyone.

·1 month agoCorrect. If you respond, to even say something like 'no thanks', they know they have captured a working email address ... same as those pop-ups that allow you to check 'Not Interested'. Just delete them.

·1 month agoA Scam, NO. A waste of time, YES.
To be a Scam, there must be the potential of losing money and/or product. Neither of which is at risk with a simple message as you have described. Simply ignore them.
