Member is trying to change shipping address for someone elses item

I sold a 14k gold chain last night and almost immediately the buyer paid...but right after that I got a message from a different ebay member to send it to a totally different address, that person only had a few feedbacks and was quite new(5 months) on ebay...they were in a different state then original buyer and wanted it shipped to another state...I realize there are scams out there, but how does one go about reporting this? any particular links on ebay to report it? or do I have to call them...and is this common?

I did contact the original buyer and ask about an address change but haven't heard back from them..so I am shipping to the buyers address on ebay and I did send a message to this member advising them they were not the buyer...

That is NOT a member. THAT was a thief. If action is taken when reported enough times, that THIEF doesn't even care as they have 1000 other 'member ids' to continue this scam.

REAL members just need to continue to be diligent in knowing there are scams everywhere.

almost sounds like the buyer may be playing games since you state right after payment, you received the other message.

You need to do your homework before shipping. Review the buyer status, all feedback, and google map address.

gold, currency, auto parts, sport cards, sneakers, and more are targets for scams.

No. Its just a bot process that searches Sold items in big ticket categories and sends that same message to every seller for as long as possible before Ebay nukes the throwaway account.

I dont know why you would Google the address on a map. Even a scammer is going to give you a valid address to ship to.

It's a pretty common scam. The non-buyer who wants the shipping address changed is hoping that you won't notice that they're not the same ID who bought the item.
