Mail fraud in Wilmington, DE
I have sold brand new iPads on my store and every thing has been going great until I got a return. Buyer told me they have received an empty box. I contacted eBay about it and they told me to have them file a police report and to send it to me so I can file a claim with USPS. I message the buyer every day to get me a police report but they never respond to my messages. The day comes to where the case has to be escalated to ebay if I don't respond. I call them and they told me that they will put the case on hold to give more time for the buyer to submit a police report. Just in an hour from the case being on hold, the case was closed in the buyer favor because they submitted a police report to eBay. I contacted ebay and they tell me they cant give me the police report because of privacy issues. Such **bleep**. I already filed a claim with usps & decided to accept the $700+ loss and decided to move on.

Then a few days pass by and today I got another return from a different account for the same product. They told me the same story that they received an empty box. Now here is where it get suspicious. This account and the other account that I lost the $700 have nearly the same address. The addresses are 2-3 miles apart. Both accounts have low feedback. Both accounts have Russian names. Both have the same story and from each other. They both bought the same product. This buyer doesn't respond to any of my messages as well. At this point, I'm pretty sure the same thing is going to happen with the first case. Nothing I can do I guess? I'm sure ill lose the case and take another loss.

Upon doing more research, these two orders were shipped to Wilmington, DE. A lot of stories on google and reddit saying that聽Wilmington, DE is associated with scams and fraud. Will eBay ever do anything about this?

路3 years agoThis just happened to me when I tried to sell my Apple watch. The buyer was located in Ukraine. They won the bid and paid for it right away. Since they paid, I couldn't cancel their bid and offer it to the next bidder. I confronted the buyer and they assured me they're not a fraud even though I've seen their shipping address on other forums complaining about scammers. I refund their payment and my Apple watch is relisted.聽

I'm glad I did a bit of research before I bought the shipping label and sent it out. He kept reminding me to send the box and reset it to factory settings. I was going to do that anyways but now I know why he really wanted the box. Scammers are ruining eBay!聽

OP5 years agoGreat news everyone! I contacted eBay business on Facebook and told they my situation. They told me they would look into it. A few days later they reply with great news! They told me they are going to overturn both appeals for both cases and refund me back all my money! 馃槃

聽 聽 聽Great news let us know if that really happens. You should have been covered under eBay's policy with regards to buyers loosing their MBG coverage when they utilize a FF but eBay has waffled on this before.聽
聽 聽 聽It does not surprise me that the buyers had Russian sounding names. Due to the current restrictions on shipping to Russia over their invasion of the Ukraine FF's are one method Russian's are using to get around those restrictions. EBay checks the shipping address not the buyers registered address and since the FF has a US shipping address they transaction goes through. Russia is also funneling a lot of merchandise through FF's operating out of China and a few other countries aligned with Russia. One of the FF companies operating out of Delaware was in fact run by Russian nationals but I don't remember which one. Following is a link to a DOJ article.聽

聽 聽 聽While the DOJ may be able to stop US FF's from this practice there is little they can do about items flowing into China, to a FF, then onward to Russia.聽

路5 years agoYour post brings back memories. We had a huge contract with a Fortune 500 company to supply and configure IPads to be used as POS. We finished the contract and had brand new unopened IPads left over. We decided to sell them on Ebay. Scammers came out of the woodwork. We had scammers buy them then immediately post not as described then send it to another address in our area. We had freight forwarders that were using stolen credit cards to order then Ebay and Paypal would cancel the sale. We would cancel sales to the border towns as El Paso, TX because the buyer would establish a mail box in El Paso then come over the border get the IPad and post not as described then go back over the border. Yea you guessed it the return would be to another address in our area.聽
聽
In one case we sent the two IPads, the buyer received them then immediately files not as described. About a week later we received two packages: a smelly used running shoe and and patent black shoe. While we were trying to figure out why we received them Ebay issued refund to the buyer. After escalating and talking to Ebay for about 10 days we did get our money back.
聽
In total we spent a lot of time did not lose any money. In all cases the buyers had 9 or 10 feedbacks. The buyers would buy seeds from China for $1 to get feedbacks. We stopped selling them on Ebay.聽

路3 years agoThat's really horrible.聽 I'm sorry you experienced this.聽 The same thing happened to me many years ago, selling Iphones on Ebay.聽 I too stopped selling them.聽

I had to laugh at "a smelly used running shoe".聽 I'm not laughing at your situation, but just the fact of what lengths scammers will go to.聽
